This story is a sequel to Split Second

Twelve years ago, she broke time. Two alternate timelines exist, each with a different version of Twilight Sparkle. Both versions of her are able to see the other. In this timeline, Sparkle is a Necromancer.

Or rather, she was. Sparkle is dead now, not that she cares. She's got a new body. With Thorn (her undead dragon son) and Cobalt (her apprentice and an assassin for hire) at her side, she's ready to take on the world. Again.

(Spoilers in the comments. Read at your own risk.)

This story is a sequel to Split Second and won't make sense without it.
This story also loosely shares continuity with Lupine Tree. Reading that is not required.

Twilight Sparkle broke time when she got her cutie mark. Now Twilight and Sparkle are sisters from another time. Twilight is hailed as the potentially greatest light magician of all time, and already has a reputation as a hero by the time she goes to Ponyville. This isn't her story, not primarily.

Sparkle is an orphan - her dark magic killed her parents. She lives with her brother in Canterlot's industrial sector because they can't afford anything better. She can't leave either. She's a natural dark mage; while Sparkle won't go mad like Sombra, her reputation is hardly any better. Worse, the law doesn't see her as a good pony.

The fact that the dead don't stay dead around her, or that Thorn - Spike's double - is an undead, soul-eating abomination, are other matters altogether.

(Also has some Slice-of-Life, but fimfiction tags won't let me put it with Adventure.)

Has an ask blog to go with it: Ask Sparkle and Thorn.
Also has a TvTropes page: Split Second Tropes.

When a race of powerful ancient beings return to Equestria after an absence of thousands of years, it isn't to the sort of world they expected. Twilight Sparkle is now the first and last line of defense in a conflict that will decide the future of her planet.

Yes, there is life on other planets. This would be fascinating news to Twilight, had they come under more peaceful circumstances. Unfortunately, Thanks to Equestria's princesses, that life is angry and has come for its due.

Art by the fantastic Zutcha, as usual. Editing by Two Bit and Sparktail.

This story was written based on a simple idea from the HiE group forums. I haven't followed the idea exactly, but there's still a spoiler warning for those who want to check it out.

When you've been using that front wheel drive rental for a year straight, one that barely makes 80HP, having to deal with the rental costs, you get sick of it.

Tempest Shadow has been driving such a rental into the ground and decides it would be cheaper to shell out some bits for a properly reliable car. She's heard a lot about a technology called VTEC, so maybe she'll get something with that. Sounds interesting.

Celestia and the sun are connected, to the point where when something happens to Celestia everypony can immediately see the sun acting up as well. What few ponies know is that this connection works both ways, and those times when the sun acts up, this has... certain effects on Celestia.

Celestia wants nothing more than to keep it a secret so as few ponies as possible worry about her. But keeping a secret from her stubborn, curious and loving marefriend might prove to be more difficult than she expected.

Cover image by the wonderful Silfoe, which also inspired the story idea alongside Carapace's story She Dap.

The date is May 1941 on Earth, better known in Equestria as the year 1015. Nazi Germany declared war on Equestria after cracking the interdimensional barrier, sending the battleship Bismarck to enforce their goals.

In response to Germany's February declaration of war, Celestia spends billions to acquire a surface fleet at least capable of attacking her enemy. But the amalgamated fleet of dilapidated ships' first test will be harder than anything Equestria has ever dealt with in the past.

Will Princess Luna, commanding her sister's motley collection of S-boats, decades-old destroyers, and nearly-scrapped cruiser hulks be able to take on the most powerful battleship to sail the Atlantic?

-----------------------

Written in memory of the Bismarck's sinking on May 27, 1941, and the loss of nearly her entire crew of over 2,200 officers and enlisted. Though their nation committed horrifying crimes against humanity, the men aboard Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, her sole consort who was detached to refuel the day before the sinking, led honorable wartime naval careers. Their destroyer screen was detached long before they steamed for the Atlantic, but I kept it here because they were part of Operation Rheinübung, which was the German attempted breakout into the Atlantic by steaming north into the Arctic and coming back down on the other side of Britain.

Published on the day of Bismarck's sinking.

During parts that show the Bismarck's perspective, several German words will be used. Since German and English are similar, it shouldn't be hard to determine what they're saying. In any event, all German words used will be in a glossary in the author's note. Each is marked in the story with an asterisk.

The Mareconi Wireless Radio. A brand-new invention that allows messages to be sent to ships at sea without the need of magic. It is but a novelty, only being available at the Manehattan Harbor and on a few select vessels.

This newfangled nonsense would be put to very good use one calm night. As I was just about to finish cleaning and shut everything down, a message came through the wireless that, for the first time ever, made my blood run cold.

"CQD CQD SOS Titanic Position 41.44 N 50.24 W. Require immediate assistance. Come at once. We struck an iceberg. Sinking"

In the dead of night, a forest fire wreaks havoc on the Green Mountains. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, having been at the right place at the right time, are valiantly fighting it. The fire, however, refuses to be quelled.

Before the two are able to fetch help from nearby towns, they hear the crying call of something that is in trouble. Something big. Something fast. A sound that could only be one thing.

The Haunting Wail of a Steam Train.
