You're right, Momlestia is best 'lestia.
I can't wait to see what the next chapter is going to be about! :pinkiehappy:
Like the story so far, too. The character's reactions are all very believable, and the writing itself is, for lack of a better word, awesome. :rainbowdetermined2:

Oh, and first! I've never been first before.... :raritystarry: I feel so honored!

Eh...Twilight's not exactly blameless here. I hope you acknowledge that...

Damn... I think this is the second story where Twilight turns dark because of what happens during Canterlot Wedding (and if I'm wrong please correct me). I know I don't like Chrysalis but what Nightmare Twilight put her through then throwing her into a never ending hell... Damn.

and everyone who witnessed what happened...I don't even know what is going on through their minds. At the very least I can't put it in words. This is going to be even worse then last chapter with Rainbow Dash.

why were spike and the cmc excluded from this chapter?

I don't know.

Both Rainbow's and Twilight's chapters felt strange to me. Partly because I'm on the side of the folks who don't think that Rainbow's friends should have to apologise for Rainbow making an ass of herself- though to be fair, you had Ponyville give Rainbow a very hard time as well, which didn't happen in the episode.

Still, we had ponies say how sorry they were over and over and over again, and both Rainbow and Twilight refusing to get off their high horse, and I just got sick of it. I felt like neither of the two deserved their friends, and I'm not sure that's the message I should've gotten here.

Addendum: I also want to note that, in my opinion, none of the above warrants a downvote, since it's all subjective, personal, and feelings on my part.

Soooo...no consequences for Twilight killing those guards?

In-Story Reason: Twilight wasn't really that angry with them after she'd calmed down. When she was a Nightmare, she hated anyone & everyone, including them. But once she had her head on straight again, she didn't have any quarrels with them that can't be sorted out by sitting down and talking for a couple minutes.

Actual Reason: I ran out of ideas, and wanted to get the story finished so I can get to work on my next project.

It reminds me of Bitterness story for some reason!

I really liked the Pinkie and RD chapters, but the Twilight one has one major flaw that kind of kills it for me. While I get that Twilight had become a Nightmare and therefore wasn't in her right mind, it still seems like everyone just kind of ignores the fact that she murdered four guards (and didn't resurrect them, despite clearly being able to do so) and traumatized the entire audience--including Spike and the CMC. I get that no one calls her out because she was effectively insane (and thus not entirely responsible for her actions) but it seems like someone should at least mention that, hey, Sweetie Belle's been having nightmares and Spike is scared to be alone with Twilight or something. I was also kind of hoping for a scene where Twilight is raging at her friends for leaving her and for someone to come in and be like, "you know that those guards left behind three widows and a daughter between them?"

But seriously, the first two chapters were great. I just have to nitpick all the time, it's a sickness.

So...we're just gonna ignore the whole "murder several royal guards in cold blood and commit treason" thing then? Okay.

“I brought my suspicions to Celestia, Shining, and those five girls up there upon the stage, but they disbelieved me. More than that, they cast me out. My own brother disowned me, stating he wanted nothing more to do with me, that I was banned from this ceremony. The five girls who I’d long thought were my friends joined him in turning their backs on me, betraying me, hating me. And Celestia, whom I have devoted most of my life to, joined them in shunning me, casting me out, severing our relationship as student and teacher.”

Celestia’s eyes widened. She had never said that! She was disappointed in Twilight, but she would never have…

Ah, but Celestia forgets, actions can speak louder than words.

I love stories where Rainbow gets pissed off at the others for the MDW thing.
They made her look like a buffoon the whole episode, yet she didn't even get angry when she saw that it was them the whole time?
I just don't get it.

I just really think Twilight should've been the main villain of this episode.

A grudge will get you nowhere.

2506123 I agree. Those guards (nameless as always) had families and shit, the CMC and Spike are basically foals, and there was an insane Element of Magic torturing the minds of Canterlot guests...... just, really? But, the Pinkamena and Dashie chaps were great. :rainbowkiss:

I really liked the first two, mostly because they made sense and I could see it happening in a sense, but I didn't like Twilights so much. It was good writing, don't get me wrong, but frankly Twilight should have had some consequences for what she did, insane at the time or not.

What is this!? "Loyalty, Joy, Kindness, Honesty, and Generosity" you do know its laughter right?

I don’t believe the premise of this chapter. I can understand how Rainbow Dash would be personally hurt that her friends never talked to her and asked her to stop bragging. But I don’t understand why the townsfolk would start insulting Dash over the incident. One of the last things she did in front of the townsfolk was try to mow someone’s lawn and save it from weeds, and the townsfolk just said “lame”, shook their heads, and walked away. Then she aggressively asked Mare Do Well who she was during the ceremony, and the townsfolk were shocked. But how did they change from that to insulting Rainbow Dash? What exactly were they insulting her with?

Also, how is what the townsfolk say the fault of the rest of the Main Six? They didn’t make any big announcements in front of the townsfolk decrying Rainbow Dash or anything. The unveiling of Mare Do Well was done in a private back alley, and Rainbow Dash acted humble at the end of it, so anyone watching the whole situation wouldn’t think less of Rainbow. Any bad feelings the townsfolk might have towards Rainbow would be due to Rainbow’s bragging, which is her own fault, or due to her confronting Mare Do Well, which the others’ are only slightly to blame for. They did provide a target for Rainbow to publically act badly towards, but they didn’t do anything to provoke Rainbow into acting badly (such as, for instance, bragging that Mare Do Well is better than Rainbow) – Rainbow’s confrontational attitude was her own fault.

I love how everyone's ignoring that Twilight's a murderer. :unsuresweetie:

I'll probably get a lot of flame for this (again), but I just fail to see how this is everyone's fave chapter of Breakdown. All it does is making Pinkie from a 'screaming psycho' to a 'punching psycho'. And furthermore, the rest of the M6 couldn't really be blamed for her condition. One has to admit that keeping a surprise for Pinkie, well... a surprise would be majorly difficult. Not to mention they never directly hurt her. Her craziness near the end was mostly caused by her jumping to conclusions and Spike's idiocy. The worst they actively did to her was Applejack lying (or trying to) in her face at the barn.

I've read the other two (well, three) chapters and I enjoyed them infinitely more. Rainbow had a strong reason to be hurt. Twilight did too, but I think Pinkie's chapter is just overblowing the original issue.

I love you put Celestia in this but the town is a bit overboard.

2435496 Twilight may have issues, but face it. the others completely mishandled the situation.

Now… allow me to show you… the full strength of my hatred…”

This reminded me of this

While this

“W-What are you?”

Reminded me of this

specifically 8:23 seconds into it.

and this reminded me of this!

“YOU WERE MY MOTHER!!!”

Particularly when Obi-Wan says that Anakin Skywalker was his brother

A mere four years after her imprisonment, Chrysalis was ‘freed’ by Ouranos, the Father of All Alicorns and one of the ‘four elder gods’ with the power capable of breaking her seal. Her body was too ravaged to remain in the material realm; he escorted her to the afterlife, to Purgatory to work off her sins for however many decades or centuries it would take to purify her soul sufficiently to ascend properly.

AW ,MAN! SHE DESERVED TO SUFFER MORE!

I don't know why, but I really enjoy stories like Twilight's section was in this story.

What is it about stories like this that really entertain me?

Have you considered doing any new "Breakdown" stories, like with Season 3-5? I feel like this has the potential to be ongoing, given how rushed 22-minute cartoon plotlines and resolutions tend to be.

Why the flying fig did I put off reading this story for so long!? This is definitely going into my favs.

6152491 I agree with this. Please do more Breakdown stories.

“We were just doin’ what yer brother told us to!” Applejack replied. “An’ besides, you came in actin’ like a madwoman, hootin’ & hollerin’, sayin’ stuff that sounded totally crazy without any proof to back it up!”

what is this word you've used, "madwoman'"? :pinkiecrazy:

you should do more of these breakdowns cause i love this (thumbs up)

Holy… I mean, it was good…just…what did I just read? :rainbowhuh: also, "boo f**king boo" mfw: :pinkiegasp:

Have you ever considered making more Breakdown stories??? this is brilliant! :)

There are still so many potential breakdowns the series has to offer; I'd love to read more of this.

Nice very nice, now this what happened when they didn't listen to Twilight Sparkle.

This will teach the mane five, Celestia and Shining Armor a lesson for not listen to Twilight.

I guessing that Spike will explain to Twilight about why he did it.

5858254
Id say because Hasbro has to make the show kid friendly. On fanfics, they can do stuff like this for the people that were pissed at the infamous 7

8315583
Well Twilight basically said it. He was too afraid of them to not go against them. PLUS, hes still a baby learning.

So Spike is not guilty in anyway. Even if you argue that he still should have, many have fallen to peer pressure even strong-willed people.

8738940
I agreed with you, he was afraid of them to not go against them, but you did say that Spike is not guilty you know.

8738950
Well he isnt, why blame a baby for something he had no control over?

8738956
Well I can't blame Spike for something he had no control over, but what I can blame is Celestia, Shinning Armor and the mane for not listen to Twilight Sparkle and for nearly letting Canterlot fall in hooves of the changelings.

In the last chapter those guards did not deserve this when Twilight kill them.
