There are times I look at the state of the mature section of fimfiction and sigh. It's full of clickbaity nonsense with ponies banging some anon/self-insert for absolutely no reason other than they exist. It's full of ponies being outrageous sluts who will just spread their legs for anything because the writers have no concept of how to actually seduce someone. And it's full of people trying to live through Spike and make him some sort of sex magnet because he's the only main cast with a dick. And it's all written by people who have never touched an actual boob in their life.
It's all boring and stale. There are still untapped ideas. Is it the writers' fault for shilling this trash, or is it the moronic readers that cry for "MoAr!"? I don't know.
And then you come along.

Can you elaborate? I am unsure if you don't like the story for the bestiality, or if you have another reason.
Seeing as this is a prequel and people did like the one story that came before this, it is interesting to see this story underperforming like this. Maybe I'm reading too much into this and the story just got downvoted by people disliking bestiality, dragging it down, before people that are interested in the topic actually got to it. After all, many dislikes can hinder the popularity of a story as people might not read a story with a bad like to dislike ratio.
Though maybe the story is just less interesting as there is a stronger slut topic combined with the bestiality. So it might be more of a niche story than the one that came before it. It is of course hard to tell.
Then again, the slut Dash story was quite popular, though that one was a confident slut instead of a submissive one. Maybe people dig that more?

I was merely complaining about the premise. But since you asked, I actually went and read both stories to figure out why the first one did so much better since they're both about bird sex.
For starters, the first one has Spike as the protagonist. Not just any Spike. But dominant take bitches and fuck names Spike. The Spike most of the degenerates on this site wish he actually was. That alone will get you to the feature box as long as you have 10 followers.
Second, the story has actual conflict. That being the animosity between Spike and Owl boi. We all know how it will probably end (with sex), but knowing there's a conflict gives people something of a resolution at the end, which means people can read it for more than just a 30 second wank.
Now on to the second one.
First off, this story is a sequel. By design it will always do worse than the first one. People that didn't want to read the first one are less disinclined to read this, and some that did read the first one may not one to read the second. There are exemptions to this obviously.
Second, the bestiality. Not just any bestiality: bird beastiality. The people on this site aren't so easily turned off by animals fucking. After all, this site is full of horses giving blowjobs. However, when you shove a horse penis into a tiny bird, most people are too busy wondering about the internal bleeding and organ damage to enjoy the story. The first story countered this by using a tiny little dragon with a tiny little pecker.
Thirdly, is this really a thing? Just strapping a flesh light on to your penis, buckling up your pants, and then going about your day? Either you'd become bored and flaccid on your drive to work, or all you do is give yourself the worst case of blue balls ever. Doing that to a living thing that can't even move itself to stimulate the penis is weirder.
Fourthly, the plotless everything's a slut world. Like, the whole casualness of the guards being down to fuck a bird was really jarring.
These things by themselves wouldn't be an issue. Hell, if you replaced bird with filly Twilight this thing would be at the top of the feature box as I write this. But each of those things above alienates a few people, and the more you add on the more people are turned away. All those things combine give you this.
In conclusion, finish Cheating Twilight.

It is true with the story. There was conflict in the last. Something that keeps the reader invested. Sadly there was nothing like this here. This was mainly because Philomena had this lifestyle for a thousand years. It is normalized. Though it now makes me wonder if I should have made the sequel about the past when things started out...maybe I will try such a first time story with these two sometime.
And yeah. The slut world might be jarring without something predating this. It was more of a slice of life approach. So it might seem jarring to get thrown into that life.
Though in the end the like and dislike ratio are stabilizing. So it seems that there might be a lot of people that dislike bestiality that have dragged it down at the start. Heck, it got featured a day after publishing, so that might also be a part of the reason along with the other ones.
Also for the Cheating Twilight one. I try to get it done this year, so you shouldn't worry about that.

I might be a little late to this discussion but this was a great a story used on the wrong target. The bird thing was slightly and okay moment but if you this would have switched this with another character I think it would have worked out better. I would have secondary the bird plot into more angry sex like the original with Spike then the submissive follower in this one because the story was great aid and pretty interesting but an unknown character like the Phoenix probably wasn't the best focal point

Considering the upvote number and the ratio, I would say it ended up being a smash hit still.
Bird fuckery is quite niche but there is still an audience for it and Owlicious isn't exactly the most well known bird either, so in the end not much to work with bird wise. Heck, Spike raised a phoenix that the series completely ignored until Spike set him free. So much wasted potential there.
Either way though, I am happy with my bird fuckery series.
