Impossible Numbers

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying, And this same flower that smiles today, Tomorrow will be dying."

E

...Dragons are strange.

No wonder they never conquered the world if most of them are that dumb.

You ain't kidding. :trollestia: The other candidates for Dragon Lord included one who wanted belching to become a greeting, and another who wanted to steal pillows. This could have been a lot weirder.

Thanks. It was fun to write too.

I wouldn't say they're dumb so much as they're inexperienced where ponies are concerned. This is a species, after all, that eats gemstones, bathes in lava, and treats a hundred years as a good amount of time for a nap. Since ponies know so little about dragons due to lack of contact, it presumably works in reverse too.

Ooooh, a really good story. I love the dragons' not-so-occasional little misunderstandings about how ponies do things. I get the impression Ember sent them mainly because she'd already explained everything three times, using smaller words each time, and she wasn't going to try to explain it again...

Thanks! :scootangel:

I think, if anything, the dragons' understanding of ponies would be even worse than the ponies' understanding of dragons. After all, ponies have a rich civilization with explorers and scientists who might at least try some safe approaches. Dragons are mostly overpowered "lazybones" types with uncomplicated lifestyles.

I get the impression Ember sent them mainly because she'd already explained everything three times, using smaller words each time, and she wasn't going to try to explain it again...

:rainbowlaugh: Oh yes, definitely. Ember's an anomaly among dragons, and I can easily see her getting impatient with the slower ones. She's a teenager, after all, and a no-nonsense one to boot. Torch might have been on to something with his policy of shouting "DO THIS, DO THAT, FEEL THE FEELING YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE FEELING RIGHT NOW".

Is this like "Friends of the people"?

7877464 True, true. It just seems like that fire inside burnt a good chunk of brains away. But yeah, ok. I can see that.

7879173

The comedy sketch series or the historic Whig society for parliamentary reform?

No in either case. :rainbowwild: It's exactly what it says on the tin: dragons trying to be friends of the ponies (and sucking at it).

7879819 The former, and I suppose that makes sense, there was a lack of twins and skits.

7880059

there was a lack of twins and skits.

Darn it. I knew it was missing something. :applejackunsure:

Oh well, back to the drawing board... :trollestia:

7880079 Don't feel bad, It was still funny.

These are clearly not the best of her subjects that Ember could have chosen for the task. Maybe Crackle would have better luck. Even if Crackle is rather weird.

7883482

Aw come on. Be fair. What dragon could even hope to be compared with the likes of Crackle? :moustache:

Most Dragons in fiction are portrayed as cunning and wise. But, when you are a 200 tons winged, natural armored, fire breathing lizard ... what problems can you have which cannot be solved by brute force rather than intellect?

7885582 Well, the problem of attacking magic wielding ponies, of course. Not to mention their greatest anti-dragon weapon, Fluttershy.

This was beautiful. I love the emphasis on how different teach species is compared to the other.

Oh, it was practically gift-wrapped by canon. When you list how many unusual traits the dragons have, I'd be surprised if they didn't have a load of misunderstandings about how ponies worked. :rainbowlaugh:

Thanks for the comment.

This was wonderful. I have this mental image now of three ancient dragons the size of houses, covered in vines and moss and dirt, still sitting in the same spot and patiently waiting for the ponies to come out.

:rainbowlaugh: Or else Ember comes along and gives each dragon a ding round the earhole. "Gosh darn it, how did you mess this one up!? You guys!"

A hilarious bit of xenofiction. When the differences between the two species start with basic biochemistry and never stop, there are going to be some diplomatic hiccups. Still, these dragons will likely meet some ponies soon. And the ponies will even be wearing shiny gold! Definite sign of friendliness there.

And of course, now that our dragon citizenry respect the cultural demands of friendship, they'll even remove the armour before eating it.

Ponies would forget that they're living, thinking that they had become part of the landscape.

Well....Celestia is going to have a laugh when she hears this.
