To be honest I was inspired by the anime that the song comes from. The headcanon itself comes from real life historical events literature.
I will soon blog about it. Once I get the time. You will come to understand what this fic seeks to accomplish. All I can ask of you is to tell your friends about this. The more feedback I can get, the better!

6860602 Well no matter what there is still hope. As long as Chrysalis and Twilight keep fighting one day something might change. Maybe it will be a small step, maybe it will be like the 0.5 % but that's just how life works. There's only so much you can achieve in one lifetime.
Now since you are enjoying my stories why not stop into one of my other favourites? More heartwarming and family friendly but with it's own drama. "Springtime Nights" will receive an expanded universe and World building.
The only thing I could find off about it was the switch from First Person to Third Person. I'm not a highly skilled editor, so I don't know if cutting that would help.
As a proofreader, I do think that the story would be a little stronger from a first person perspective. I know that'd be a lot of work, but I also think it would be a great improvement.

I don't like to be morbid which is why I side with Twilight, the true tool of the Nightmare Miasma was Hopelessness. Despair destroys you by removing hope, with out hope the potency of Friendship, Love, Passion, and Curiosity is lost. Friendship didn't win against Nightmare by itself, love alone wasn't what defeated Chrysalis or Twilight's determination, Hope gave those things the power to win.. Chrysalis lost because she was driven by fear and despair, she didn't believe victory would save her people or herself, her army fought with hope in their hearts but seeing Shiny and Cadance powering up remove her hope and seeing their queen hopeless might have weakened the changelings
7104753 I don't like ending things with despair either. Listen. Hope is an illusion. Don't take this the wrong way but hope is the illusion that is created by ignoring the possible outcomes and believing that the best one. It's a powerful motivational tool and you should NEVER underestimate the power of the human mind. It can move mountains, it can heal or CREATE injuries on your own body. Hope though an illusion is an apt tool with causes and consequences.
Hope is a choice, a way of life, a creed. There is a saying in my people that roughly translates to "God helps those who help themselves". Meaning that if you want good things to happen to you you need to be open to them. If you don't reasonably hope for the outcome that favors you no matter what outcome comes your way you aren't going to get anything because you are already telling yourself that you won't get anything.
Chrysalis tried. She really did... but she lost the will, the hope. Twilight persevered. Chrysalis is tired, and she's far older than Twilight. Twilight is young and begins to understand why Chrysalis and she are different. She understands and tries to help. This is not over. Life is a long grueling struggle, and Chrysalis and Twilight will understand that you might not achieve even 0.5% of your grand life goals. But that 0.5%... It matters. And you should be happy you tried.
Anyway potential sequel is planned just so you know.

I think your a bit confused, saying hope is an illusion implies it's something fake, something not real that has no meaning or effect on outcome. Hope is the belief that there is always something worth striving for. But hope can't achieve anything with out effort just hoping is little more than wishing, believing that if you do nothing things will turn out in the end. If you hope but don't try you get nothing. You need hope as motivation to act, other wise your wasting it. Hope is only a illusion if you refuse to use it. You have to work toward hope, you have to use hope to make something real, not just wish very hard and expect results.

This is a rather interesting piece, and I have to commend you on the quality of writing.
That being said, I took issue with the overall premise - I feel that the idea of the nightmare miasma posessing the changeling race is kind of a stretch, doesn't really explain why she wanted to take over Canterlot, and serves to shift the blame away from Chrysalis.

On the one hand she wants to feed but on the other hand she doesn't exactly want to hurt people to do so. So she ends up approaching the subject in a pragmatic apathetic way to be able to deal with the guilt. Remember... She said that if changelings knew of it they would be ashamed... And since she knows she is one of them.
As for what it does compare it to what becomes when someone ends up as a vampire. But in a more cataclysmic/destructive way.
