80-year-old Rarity keeps tripping on the steps.

This story won an honorable mention at the Iron Author Speedwriting Contest at Everfree Northwest. Contestants must write a full pony story within 2 hours, based on a bizarre prompt. This is my story as written for the contest, with only minor proofreading edits. Additional edits may be made once I have received feedback from the judges.

After an explosion of temper, Apple Bloom flees the family home to be alone. Fortunately for her, her big sister is wise enough to know it would be a bad time to be by herself. The two sisters talk about life, and loss, and filling the empty hole left inside when someone you love leaves you behind.

Meanwhile, two dense but well-meaning pegasi try to figure out the best way to cheer up their marefriends.

Rarity is ruined. After 5 years of designing outfits and costumes that make even the most snobbish of ponies envious, every pony has lost interest in her fashion style... no pony in Equestria wants to do with anything "old" or "strange" and Rarity is losing all of her clients. With bills piling up and Rarity unable to find any amount of work, even making cheesy costumes for school plays, Rarity is forced to sell her home and belongings; and file bankruptcy... Applejack, seeing her lifelong crush in finical ruin, decides to let Rarity and Sweetie Bell live on the farm to help out until they get back on their hooves.

Applejack wonders why Thanksgiving isn't as good as Hearthswarming to the majority of the other ponies. Today, she finds out.

What is the greatest cleaning spray ever, capable of cleaning any mess, no matter how severe, with a few simple squirts? Why, that's 409, a cleaning product that's a well-kept secret by earth ponies. Rarity has encountered a problem with the messiness factor of the Carousel Boutique, and Applejack has the solution. The question is, what happens when Rarity is given the ultimate in earth pony cleaning technology?

This is my 409-follower special that is my excuse to delay my 400-follower special. I assure you guys that I put more effort into the story itself than I did in making the magical aura around the bottle of 409.

Apple Bloom realizes she’s a fillyfooler, but now the pressure is on to keep it a secret. Her family has always been conservative, and Equestria only recently learned to accept ponies like her. Can she handle it? Will the truth come out? Will she?
