All Vice Principal Luna wanted was a nice, clean race.

An extended version of my winning entry at the Brony Flashfic Contest. The randomized prompt was to somehow write a story involving: Luna, Canterlot High, a hot air balloon, and Applejack.

Sunset Shimmer takes the mantle of her old master Sir Sunburst Starwatcher in a fit of desperation. Now, having had a taste of the glory and victory that has so long been out of reach, she throws herself into a delicate balance between fighting her way to riches and the noose that awaits if she is discovered.

And the lie she and her friends are trying to keep is getting harder and harder to maintain. Oh, and of course, there's the maiden fair who seems determined to get the truth of the matter.
*Based loosely on A Knight's Tale, you do not need to have seen the movie. This will have substantial differences.

All Sunset Shimmer ever wanted was a place to belong, a place where she felt loved. Though, who would love a defiant sixteen years old? No one has ever wanted her. Can Vice Principal Luna show her the love and care she so greatly desires?

The Space Race is considered by most to be the most ambitious undertaking in the history of humankind. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched a series of programs that aimed to advance scientific discovery and engineering by leaps and bounds, and push the world into a new age of exploration. It was almost the crowning achievement of our species.

Celestia feels like her life isn't all it should be. Luna enjoys the quiet, and keeps toiling away at her job. Cozy Glow wants to enjoy spreading chaos almost as much as she wants something out of it. Two of them are dead and the third one might as well be, and only one of them knows it. The tide is rising, and it's time to face the past.

Sunset wasn’t the first students of CHS to turn into a demon. Back when Luna were a students herself, she once became the demoness known as Nightmare Moon and had to learn to control that part of herself.

Now Sunset need to learn to do the same, and who better than the Nightmare herself?
