When Octavia sees Vinyl's affections towards a stallion, she can't bring herself to confess her feelings towards her childhood friend. Jealousy leads to an argument on Hearth's Warming Eve, and when Octavia is set to play music at the local play, she is shocked by a sad call from Vinyl. With someone close to her dying, Vinyl finally begins to question her life, and what she truly means to Octavia.

A different take on Octavia that I thought of.

Octavia is a member of the Royal Guard as a musician for the various balls and formal events they hold. A position that is sought after for the frequency it is requested by the Princesses. Octavia has just been promoted to Commanding Officer of the ensemble and is going out to celebrate. At a nightclub in Canterlot she will meet an old rival and friend. Things will quickly spin out of her control as feelings arise, subordinates laugh, and alcohol flows. All underneath the neon lights and thumping bass.

A recording of Vinyl's life story, from music school to how she became a world famous DJ. Along with everything in between, including a romance with Octavia, and how that relationship affects Lyra. How she goes from being a nerd to an outspoken and confident mare. And finally, why she first gets into DJ'ing. Along with lots of other good stuff of course.

Octavia has been going out with Vinyl for a while, but now she doesn't feel like she can continue, so she writes Vinyl a letter to express the full extent of her feelings for Vinyl.

Octavia has it all figured out. She has a home, a job, and the pony she loves. Nothing is behind her, nothing is stopping her. Right?

Octavia Melody is in a bit of a spot. Life on the Manehattan Space Station isn't easy for most ponies to begin with, but when your BitCard balance is zeroed out and you're living meal to meal? It starts to feel like things couldn't get much worse.

The problem is that that sort of thinking only invites more trouble.

When Octavia suddenly finds herself stuck in the middle of a plot that could destroy the whole of the Grand Equestrian Empire, the source of her next meal is going to be the least of her concerns. Now she must find the Elements of Harmony, unravel the secrets of the Empire, save the universe, and, just maybe, find a way to make some friends.
