In 1010, Wingbardy, under Beakolini, finally invaded the colony of New Mareland. The overwhelming force of tanks, artillery, and bombers continues to grind forward as cities are bombed day and night by the enemy's air force.

And yet, life goes on, even in a city being bombed. Citizens must make do, the war effort be fueled by engines of industry and labor.

This is one family's story, under fire.

If the first weeks of the Great War had raised concerns over the ability of Royal Armoured Corps of the Equestrian Army in comparison to their Changeling counterparts, the disastrous Battle of Talewood in early 1010ALB laid bare the inadequacy of their equipment beyond any doubt. An answer was needed and ideally, it would arrive three moons ago.
Now it falls to industrialists more used to tractors than tanks to come up with a new vehicle capable of standing up to the mechanised fury of the Changeling war machine, but with the Heer gaining ground every day, will anyone deliver a working model in time to turn the tide of the Great War?

This story has been announced as the second place winner of the Fifth Annual Equestria at War Writing Contest! The prompt was "Magic making way for technology."
This is a short story set in the world of the acclaimed Hearts of Iron 4 mod, Equestria at War. It is set in the Quenta Roccolië timeline.
Rated Everyone, but contains mild injuries (nothing worse than a Jerry Anderson series might show).
Thanks to ShiningBeacon for betaing.
Cover is a painting of a British Valentine tank circa 1942, presumably in Libya or Tunisia. I was unable to find the original source.

Gilda only wanted the humble things in life. Cheap rent, copious bits, the respect of her peers, the occasional juicy field-mouse.

Being captured by the Equestrians and dragooned into the Territorials wasn't quite what she'd dreamed of, but at least the rent was free.

And the rats were nice and plump.

The elders say there's nothing above the stone but endless water, stretching forever into the darkness.
But there are older stories, hidden in the soil and the dirt. Stories of a place with no ceiling at all, where light falls from on high in every color one can imagine.
And a dog by the name of Dash is going to find it.

Coming back from a hectic job, the crew of Serenity experience a ship-wide malfunction as a bizarre incident occurs in space around them. Eventually all of the ship's systems clear and they think nothing of it, that is until they discover they've taken on a rather interesting hitchhiker.

An MLP/ Firefly crossover story, if that wasn't obvious.
I appreciate the story being shared around, commented on, liked, enjoyed, all that jazz. :ajsmug:

For Rainbow Dash, seeing is believing. When her friend Twilight Sparkle told her that "electricity is harmful to humans with enough likelihood that you should definitely not zap Anon with lightning bolts", she didn't listen. After all from the two of them, it was Dash who saw more creatures zapped with lightning. Most of those occurrences were her doing as well. And so she decided to knock down two apples with one stone - teach her book loving friend a lesson about who the real weather expert is, and cure the local oddity that was Anonymous the Human from his irrational fear. Oh, and of course have a blast doing it.

Things don't exactly go according to her plan however, and she ends up creating a bigger mess than she could comprehend - not only for herself and her target, but also a certain somepony who will have to abandon her ancient traditions and improvise on the spot.

Formerly marked mature for uncouth language and the death theme. I now have an actual 'death' tag though, so I dropped it down.

One Charlie Phillips has everything. He's the captain of a unique airship crewed by a dead-loyal mix of equestrian society's rejects. He's also the keeper of a thousand-year-old legacy and life is seemingly simple. Survive!

Six powerful objects ensure that survival, but not even Charlie knows their true nature. All he knows is that his lack of any magical ability is what enables his role. It's dangerous, but at the same time rewarding. He's accustomed to skating on thin ice, but In a world where being without magic could mean a death sentence, his confident and seemingly carefree exterior belies a deep sadness surrounding a debt he can't repay. Yet, that's not going to stop him from trying.

When he becomes aware of the possibility that another human may have crossed over into Equestria things begin to change and not for the better. During the course of Charlie's investigations he begins to draw startling conclusions about the past, present, and future of the world he inhabits. He and his comrades will have to act quickly to stop a disastrous chain of events!

This is a spin off of MrNelg's top-tier adventure story "Megan William's of Equestria." I recommend reading some of that, at least the first chapter before starting into this one.

For the past year, Spike has built a fledgling movement in Ponyville, fighting for non-ponies’ rights to citizenship. The tales of prejudice in Loose Leaf’s report invigorates the campaign, but draws opposition to the growing cause.

Now that the report is circulating across Equestria and their cover blown, Walker and Trixie march onward to the newly emerged Crystal Empire, following the only lead he has back home. There he runs into the frantic Twilight Sparkle, the pony who urged along his departure from Ponyville, and now needs his help to save this kingdom. Alongside her is Spike, who recognizes the human is just the figure his movement needs.
