Nighmare Moon was banished for one thousand years. She had more than enough time to plan her return. Every aspect was intricately planned down to the letter, for maximum dramatic effect to instil sufficient terror in her future subjects that they would bow down without question.
At least, that was how the plan was supposed to go.

LOL! That was a really good short story. Definitely liked how the ponies used rational arguments to wear down Nightmare Moon without even NEEDING to go for the Elements of Harmony. That means Twilight can find the Elements later out of pure scientific curiosity and take a few more months along with new friends in order to figure out how to activate and use the Elements when they DON'T have the pressure of a fate of the world scenario (though I DO hope they figure it out BEFORE Discord returns - I doubt rational arguments will work with HIM [at least not at that point in time]). Of course, arguing with Chrysalis will be a mixed bag - Chrysalis won't listen when the ponies argue that the Changelings can get more love by earning and sharing it instead of by invasion and abduction of the Alicorn of Love, but at least half of the other Changelings MIGHT actually listen.
Anyway, the dialogue, characterizations and wrap-up are pretty well done.
In the end, science shall succeed! Well done n_n

Actually, Season 2 Chrysalis might listen. Evil as she was, she didn't come across as the self-serving tyrant she became in Season 6 and was trying to gather love for the entire hive. So...
And so ended Season 1.

Wow, Twilight didn't even need to elements of harmony, she just needed logic and common sense.
Actually this probably could have fit in with the show, Nightmare Moon didn't show any want to kill anyone, she wanted eternal night and to rule Equestria, that was basically it so this would probably be an entire alternative to defeating Nightmare Moon.
Would be funny to see Celestia's reaction though.
This could honestly be a full on story on what would happen if Twilight was just being rational instead of defeating every villain, it could work for Nightmare Moon, Chrysalis or atleast most of the changelings, Starlight Glimmer since that has already happened but it could probably be easier, same goes with Sunset Shimmer, maybe discord but I'm not sure, he does get reformed but at the same time he wants to spread Chaos, Twilight could probably find a solution to maybe bring chaos to certain areas, maybe make friends as well, who knows.
LOLOLOL OMC, this is the universe where MLP G4 ended after Season One, Episode Two because Twilight geeked Nightmare Moon to death. Very nice touch having young Luna appear unhurt at the end. Yay, Luna!

Ah yes, the ultimate war strategy, defeating the villain by telling them how inconvenient their plan would actually be if they succeeded.
A wonderful little rehash of a fandom classic, I especially liked NMM collapsing into a singularity, since I'm not sure I've seen that one before.
Left me feeling pretty nostalgic for the MLP Loops and all the various pranks on NMM in there.
