It's easy to find teachers willing to substitute at Canterlot High. It's just hard to keep them.

Written for the A Thousand Words Contest II in the "Experimental" category, where it won a judge's prize.

Fun and short read, I always enjoy a Cheerilee story, and this one was great.

An interesting story within a story experimental bit!

this is so cute!! i love the formatting

Great fic! I personally found Cherilee's notes stronger, but that may be because I expected it to go way more ridiculous with the substitute teacher getting very worried about what is happening, which is more my type of humour—so just take it as my personal taste.

I greatly appreciate how Cheerilee's note treat the magical stuff as equal as anything else. A visualisation how magic is just accepted as a every day occurence :derpyderp2:

Okay, I like the name 'MIMI Alarm' in theory, but... well, unfortunately I've played a certain game and remember a certain character and so I can't help but imagine said alarm blaring out a certain sound that would be unnerving and annoying to those who don't know the character and terrifying to those who do:

MIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMIMI

Since this is a period with mixed grades, if you need help wrangling kids, ask Rainbow Dash. She will sort them out.

hehe she would be good at that! though i imagine Applejack even better at critter-wrangling

Students are to finalize their essay outlines. If someone says they have no idea what you are talking about, tell them that they are a liar. (Please don’t actually say that.)

aww but it is so tempting!

If you need recommendations, I try to nap.

so true

Students are to continue reading the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth chapters of Jane Mare.

love the inexplicable horse puns in this supposedly “human” world

This class is a little more squirrely than the others. Should Micro Chips and Twilight Sparkle begin heated philosophical discussion, DO NOT ENGAGE. Let them talk. This is normal.

  • Also, depending on the day, some kids might start glowing. That’s normal, too.

love that these two are placed at about the same level of importance and normal

If a M.I.M.I. alarm sounds, DO NOT PANIC! The students know what to do. Follow their lead.

hehe, and there’s the title!

Phone Home was used once and I suggest getting a Laptop Home too because Trixie Lulamoon was using hers to charge her vape.

oh yeah no way Trixie doesn’t vape

Sandalwood spent ten whole minutes in the restroom. If I hadn't also been a teenager once, I would say he spent the time crying.

guess CHS isn’t zero-tolerance lol

Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle, and Rarity got to class five minutes before the period was done and barely a minute after the drill had ended. They claimed it was because of yearbook committee duties.

yay the main characters of the show!

They had this purple goop all over them but they were wearing trashbags. (I'm guessing so it wouldn't track on the floor.)

very normal and considerate

Some clarity would have been appreciated, especially when students were trying to convince me it was because of magic. You might want to ask admin about installing carbon monoxide detectors.

hehe, even after seeing the yearbook committee glow the substitute teacher thinks this! though all adults having this mindset would go a long way in explaining just why the things that take place in CHS don’t have world-changing consequences

just adored this! an epistolary work that maintains its immersion while giving a nice little glimpse into how the mundanity of a standard high school fits with the many, many magical incidents that the CHS students experience regularly. subtle, grounded, and lovely. thank you so much for writing!

Cute little fic! Love the way u told the story in two parts, it’s a really cool concept to use the outline and the sub teacher’s response to it. congrats on the judge prize in the contest, it’s well deserved!

Coloring pages are also available.

Dang. I never got coloring pages in high school.

No kids! Yay!!!

That says volumes, doesn’t it? Especially the triple exclamation point. A sign of strained sanity if there ever was one.

Keep an eye on Snips.

He knows what he did.

Also, depending on the day, some kids might start glowing. That’s normal, too.

I do love how this is thrown in as late as Cheerilee could get away with.

Trixie Lulamoon was using hers to charge her vape.

This made me stare in shock from the wrong(?) end of a generation gap. Thank/curse you for the moment of existential horror.

Still, nothing can get me to return to CPA.

Oof. I guess Cadence isn’t making much headway (or River left before Cinch stepped down.)

Delightful little two-part tale absolutely swimming in dramatic irony. Thank you for it and congrats on the judge prize.

Very clever idea and execution n_n

Hello! A belated courtesy note for my review of this. A neat twist on journalfic, and a cute idea with a nice stinger near the end. Easy like.
