This story is a sequel to Business Trip

Five years ago, sixteen mares founded a hotel in New Jersey called the Mareiott. These are their stories. A sequel to Business Trip, it's recommended (though not necessary) to read that first. Act I serves as a prequel, Act II is comprised of side stories to Business Trip, and Act III explores what these mares have been up to in the ensuing years.

Of note, Mr. Jones Goes To Equestria is a side story to this, and completely optional prior reading.

Character tags: Cherry Pie, Daisy Dreams, Dewdrop Dazzle, Diamond Rose, Feathermay, Flitterheart, Honeybuzz, Lily Blossom, Lulu Luck, Ploomette, Plumsweet, Rainbow Flash, Snowcatcher, Starbeam Twinkle, Sunny Rays, & Sweetie Swirl

Each chapter will be told from a first pony perspective, so you can see the character's thoughts and motivations for their actions. That's sixteen individual points of view, and the pony in focus will be spelled out in the chapter name. Also, please note that due to the changing perspectives, the tone of the story will shift from chapter to chapter.

Written as a thank you to all those who enjoyed the original and requested a sequel, and also serves as another entry in Admiral Biscuit's challenge/request/not-a-contest for more slice of life fics featuring ponies working on Earth:

Just read your notes on this project. Very ambitious, indeed! Loved the prequel and spinoff, so I'll have to add this to my to-read list.

Thank you! I hope you'll enjoy this one as well! :pinkiehappy:

Well, thanks to the power going out, but not the cellular, I just read your first two chapters. Wonderful flow, proper grammar and spelling, and an interesting storyline. I fully expect to see this in the featured box.

10040414
Hopefully your power comes back soon. And thank you!

This is great! I've already enjoyed "Business Trip" and "Mr. Jones Goes To Equestria". Now there is more .... *starts reading* :pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

Ah, the debtor's dodge. A fine old tradition that, very American of her.

10040579
:yay: I'll do my best to keep the rest enjoyable too. Thank you!

I was a huge fan of business trip I hope this turns out just as good.

Shhh.... hear that?
Thats the sound of you tugging at my heart strings.
Keep up the good work. Thumbs up!

I'm such a fan of this universe, also really like Snowcatcher, I'll be following this story as fondly as I did your others.

Thank you very much! :pinkiehappy: I hope you'll enjoy this one as well!

Oh, hey, a sequel to Business Trip!

*revisits Business Trip*

Wait, I forgot to like Business Trip and add it to my Favorites?! :pinkiegasp:

Shame on me!

P.S. In all seriousness, I'm glad I noticed my blunder.

10040879
Thank you! :pinkiehappy: I hope you'll enjoy this one as much as Business trip.

Shaping up well so far, looks like. :)

This is one of those times when you never expected a sequel, but welcome it with open arms.

Your first story was gold.
Well done and thankyou for continuing the story :ajsmug:

Thank you! :pinkiehappy: I admit, at the time I wrote the original, I never expected it to be more than a one-shot. But there were a lot of requests for a sequel, so I started thinking about further adventures they could have, and here we are. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as the original!

Dan

A pony hotel in Ely or Pipestone or Duluth or Grand Marais, MN would be most welcome.

Maybe the Twin Cities area, but it's a little too crowded for my tastes. Maybe herd animals would like that, but I avoid the cities like the plague.

Ooooh! Maybe they can build one near the Mayo Clinic. It wouldn't be beneath their dignity to volunteer as therapy animals while providing outpatient rooms, would it?

10041726
Achievement unlocked: you've just influenced this story. :pinkiehappy:

Putting a hotel filled with cuddly ponies in a city with a world class medical facility is a no-brainer. People travel from all over the world to the Mayo Clinic. There's a need for hotels, and there's a need for empathy. I've primarily picked the locations based on tourist areas, but there are many reasons to travel, and this one fits their core concept perfectly.

Thank you for the idea!

I'll just have to be careful to write something different. :raritywink: Thankfully, none of our ponies here are doctors, and they'd be mostly centered around the friends and relatives of the patients. Though I'm sure that if one of them was asked to cuddle with a patient they would in a heartbeat.

Dan

Maybe Snowcatcher would like the ancient and sacred St. Paul Winter Carnival.
https://www.twincities.com/2020/01/19/st-paul-winter-carnival-2020-whats-returning-and-whats-new/

I had some fun times at the carnival as a kid, but again, I try to avoid going into the city nowadays. Paying for parking ramp or meters pisses me off. But then, the best Thai place in the metro area doesn't have any parking and they don't deliver, so a parking ramp is necessary evil. They don't even have a 15-minute parking space for take out pickups. :(

Haven't read this yet, but from the description you mean "prequel" NOT "sequel"

Dan

As mentioned in the notes, a large portion will be flashbacks.

10042594

It's complicated. If we start with the prologue, that's a sequel. The first act serves as a prequel through flashbacks. The second act will be side stories to the original, while the third act and epilogue will also definitely be a sequel. So it's a little bit of everything, and I'm honestly not sure what to call it. I'm open to suggestions!

Hooray, an update!

I like this Fleur that's willing to mentor younger models who are receptive to advice. It's too bad most of the ones who really need it aren't paying attention to her.

Good story.
Thankyou for another chapter :ajsmug:

There is something about Ponies on Earth that is appealing. Even moreso than Human in Equestria.
And with your first story Mareiott, you did it well.

Glad to see the story continue.

A smart beauty that has a good set of social graces, very good.

Okay, you know what? I refuse to accept that this is all there is.

Moar. This is a treaaure trove of world building and delicious storytelling.

Dan

Just put me down as "undecided," every major's terrible.

10052423

More's coming, promise! :scootangel: I'm currently just over 4,000 words into Dewdrop Dazzle's chapter, and she hasn't even gotten to Earth yet. :raritywink: I'm hoping to have it done sometime this week. And thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying reading this! :pinkiehappy:

...Huh. Not sure why there are no other comments. Well, I enjoyed the chapter. :)

FTL

The secret of how Snowy went from “Assistant Hero” to “Top of the class graduate with all bridges now burnt”, must be a humdinger of a story.

Snowcatcher and Dewdrop vs the world.

Great chapter. I like the dynamic between those two :-)

I think that in these first three stories, we've got some significant hints that Equestria is much uglier underneath the surface than the many ponies- especially the ones in positions of privilege and power- are willing to admit.

Definitely not all your average, everyday ponies are they?

10119257

In some ways they are, and in others they're not.

On a side note, thanks for checking out some of my older stories. :pinkiehappy: Old Habits Die Hard in particular I consider one of my best works, so I was very pleasantly surprised to see it get a new comment tonight. I'm glad you liked it, and thank you!

Act 1: Diamond Rose

You usually use a capital I here.

10119407

If you appreciate an author, it's only appropriate to go through their catalog and experience their other works.

I hopped up onto the bed. Normally I wore all the pretty jewelry, but there was no easy way to wear any of these gems. So I did the only thing I could do – I rolled on top of them. The cold touch of the gems on my fur, combined with their unique shapes and textures, made my body tingly.

And then she turned into a dragon.

I sat at the table and a bowl of cereal appeared in front of me. All the cereal pieces had been picked out, leaving only the marshmallows swimming in a bowl of milk. Just the way I like it!

Good thing ponies are immune to sugar-related ailments...

Lily just sat there and gave me a wing’s up or wing’s down depending on if she liked how it looked on me or not. Her sense of fashion is awful, so I went with my normal plan of buying anything she disapproved of.

Now if one had a Puckish turn of mind...

If I catch his fancy I could be a princess! My parents really do think of everything! So he’s double my age – so what? He’s a prince!

Mares like you are why he goes to every society party acting the misbegot spawn of Tirek.

The one that stood out from the pack was some bright red, lacey lingerie.

The frag? She's sixteen you anonymous creep!

We weren’t better than anypony else just because we were better off financially. Even though I’ll forever struggle with that concept doesn’t make it any less true.

Now, if you start off at twelve as an impoverished Scottish shoeshiner and work your way up to be the richest gorram duck in the world, then there might be an argument to be made.

"It’s not like you have to come with me.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t.”

Wanna bet?

Having to bribe both the ponies at the Equus checkpoint and the people at the Earth checkpoint had cost a bit more than I’d planned. I’d lost about a fifth of my money before I even got on the bus.

Graft makes the world go 'round. I wonder how much illicit Equestrian gold and gems is entering the economy via that portal complex?

“Hi! I’m Snowcatcher. Some of the other mares and I are starting up an Equestrian style hotel here on Earth, and I was wondering if you’d be interested in joining us?”

It's a motley crew she's assembling, not quite a wretched hive of scum and villainy, but not exactly a flock of blushing angels either. I can't wait to see her reaction at the end of this, not exactly the social engineering coup she was hoping for, hmm?

Lily is not going to be thrilled, is she? :rainbowlaugh:

Considering these are all ponies willing to uproot their lives to move to an entirely different world, some of them are indeed hiding something. Perfectly content ponies don't tend to pack up and move for no reason. But no one is entirely good, just as no one's entirely evil. Hence the characters all have their strengths and their flaws.

The scene of Diamond Rose rolling around on the gems was meant to be evocative of Scrooge McDuck. It's not quite the same as diving into a pile of gold, but her family isn't that rich. :raritywink:
