Boules is the name for an entire family of games that involves trying to roll, throw, or otherwise get large balls closer to a small ball (or other target) than one's opponent can. Bocce, petanque, and lawn bowling are all part of this family. Curling can be considered part of it too, as it's essentially the same game but with a stationary target on ice.
