The day Canterlot fell

Author's Note:

For the Luna piece, it is a MagnaLuna piece that was found on google. Please go show them love, as they make the best luna, and frankly pony art I've seen (personal preference but eh)

Also, for this chapter and this chapter alone I will not be putting breaks between past and present. This is to show the mental battle raging in Val. So any text Like this is a sign that it is a memory, everything else is the present. Thank you for the love and support last chapter and I hope I can continue to put out content for the forceable future

"You swore! You promised to protect him!"

"And I will! He isn't dead! But without you around, who can handle his dragon energy?!" Celestia spoke, her eyes hardened, with no regret.

"Shut up shut up SHUT UP!" Valstrax roared "I left to protect you all! I have always protected you all, and this is how you pay me back!"

"What do you mean? You were only there for Discord! Where were you during the war against Sombra?! Where were you against Terek, against the changelings, against Nightmare-"

"Don't you DARE call her that! Its your fault, its all your fault! I fought, blead, and nearly died, over and over to protect you from the threats that would stab you in the back, and the front! I was being tortured by Sombra because I refused to yield, only breaking free due to a opening Luna made, I was gathering and raising a dragon army against Terek, the changelings were no threat until you made them one, and Luna.... You pushed her too much, and like anyone, she snapped. And yet, for all that, you killed my child...."

"For the last time-"

"NO!" Val roared, her eyes focused on Canterlot tower. "I let you go last time. A mercy for the bitch who was once my friend.... no more. You changed him. You robbed him of his legacy. You had him as nothing more than a servant, and I shutter to think of all the training you put him through to have him so mature, so world weary, and so mannered for one of his age.... No. More."

Luna heard, no felt the roars. The dragon element began to caress her being, a power she had not used since the night she turned nightmare. "My dear Val.... Dont worry, I'll stop you from something you will regret, and together learn the truth." She said, ignoring the feared looks she was getting as the moon rose, a blood moon, changing luna as her eyes took on similarities to her friend. "Celestia.... Sister.... You have much to answer for." She said.

If a pegasus was to look at the castle, they would see two read lights. One barreling towards Celestia's tower, the other bolting within, heading for the same room.

Celestia looked up as she felt her wards break, followed by the sound of an alarm. "So.... Val has come...." She said with a sigh. For a moment, she was tempted to summon the weapons Valstrax had them make, ones made from various parts, broken bones, and scales that had been removed from the silver dragon over the years, made as the insurance incase her friend ever lost her mind, but she stopped. She wouldn't make another mistake. She deserves this. "I am a fool..." She sighed as she stepped out onto her balcony, knowing Val could see her. "At the very least... if she sees me she will avoid hurting any other of my little ponies." She thought out loud as she looked back to that fateful moment, the moment that broke everything.

Celestia watched as black and red energy cascaded over her little sister, Luna's eyes turning into slits as with a roar almost similar to Valstrax's, she lifted up the collapsed building with her hooves, allowing the family trapped inside to escape. Her sister had become a terror. Ever since Valstrax and her grew closer, the once little sister grew into her own. Her sister was always powerful, but now she was a force to be respected and feared. Indeed, the moon was outshining the sun, and the sun was none too pleased. Celestia had always been the one to lead them, always been the stronger one, and now her sister was better than her in almost every way. Celesia became spiteful, and started to use the people to her advantage. Under the guise of an illusion, she started a church dedicated to her worship... and started a cult dedicated to their blood hungry goddess of the night, giving them free rein to do whatever atrocities they wanted. People began to fear the night, and instead of watching the hard work her sister put into every star in the sky, they began to worship her. But it still wasn't enough. Even after all this drove her sister mad with anger and grief, she was still jealous and bitter. She looked through Luna's journal and discovered just what happened, and what was the source of her new found almost godlike power, and what she found intrigued her. Luna and Val had tied each other's mana pools, not unlike what Unicorns would do when they planed to marry. The implications of which Celestia of the past didn't care about, what she did care about was that since Valstrax didn't have magic, they tied the next best thing, her dragon element. The source of Valstrax's powers, and Luna's newfound strength. So when Valstrax came in, wounded, still on whatever mission she was on, and begged Celesia with tears in her eyes to look after her child, it was like Hearthwarming came early. But she didn't want just some of the energy, no, she wanted it all. So instead of tying herself to the yet unborn dragon, she absorbed its dragon element. And it wasn't until after she had finished that she realized the price of her actions. The egg was still. No heart beat. No movement. The only sign to her that there was even still life in it was a magical scan, which indicated that it was alive, but likely may never hatch, in a state of limbo. And it was a day later that Valstrax came back....

Celestia of the present collapse into tears. And of course she didn't fix her mistakes after Twilight did the impossible, and replaced the core of dragon element with magic. No, she made more. She never taught Twilight how to properly care for the young wyrm. She had sent Spike off to be disciplined and put through grueling training to be the perfect assistant for Twilight. She even let his name stay, sounding like a pet dog rather than a person, than family. She looked up in time to see silver approach, and hear a deafening boom she has not heard in long time, louder than even a sonic rainboom.

Valstrax roared as she broke through shield after shield, the spells nothing compared to her fury. The twin red blurs neared their location at the same time, both chasing the sun. Right before Valstrax could skewer Celestia into paste, She heard a voice, and even in her primal rage, this was one voice she couldn't ignore. "Enough Valkyrie!" Her mate shouted as Luna reached her target first, Her blue eyes tinged with red and her hair as beautiful as the risen blood moon. With a roar Valstrax aimed herself slightly up and tore off the roof of the tower, debris flying down the mountain, thankfully with enough force that whatever wasn't pulverized was sent far off the mountain, avoiding hurting any ponies below. She flew back around and landed with a heavy thud in the now roofless room, growling at Celestia as she circled around to nuzzle the princess of the Night. "Luna..."

Luna smiled softly and nuzzled back. "I missed you... but please wait. I want to know the truth from her first. If I think she is lying.... then I will step away and let you continue." She said, Celestia wincing as in her adenine, her own eyes were just as slitted as the other two in the room. "So, what will it be sister. I think its time we all learn the truth."

Celestia gulped. She would have preferred the dragon.

Good chapter.
I’m interested in what happens next.

She should rip away what Celestia stole, maybe even even more

luna has the dragon element! I am surprised.

celestia must pay the price for her youthful arrogance.

That and take Spike back to re-teach him.

Nice chapter. I guess Celestia is a power hungry mare and needs to be removed from the throne...

Wouldn't really make sense and it also wouldn't fix anything.

Maybe when he was still an egg but now it's too late.

Also magic replaced what Celestia stole.

Val takes back what Celestia stole and it seems there are 2 options to what to do next:
- Put it into herself. There is no better place to hold it
-Create a new egg with it

You know, I never understood why everyone believes Celestia is too important to kill or permanently disfigure. One thing life has taught me is that no matter how important you think you are, you are both unnecessary and replaceable.

Celestia is no different. She isn't needed to raise the sun, just because she has been doing it, doesn't mean she is needed to continue doing so. She is also really a piss poor ruler to boot. Any guard or shopkeeper in the country could rule better than her.

Snap off her horn and be done with it.

The Monk ... ... ... (With an oh so appropriate quote)
“Not telling you too much about humanity's special power, but I can give you a big hint! It is pure, concentrated spite.” -Knight Breeze

Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the author did some foreshadowing about that earlier. Something about Spike eating one of Val's crystallized tears making his eyes glow or something.

Which, given what a combination of cliches from other stories and logical reasoning from our own minds tells us, we can assume that he'll get his true powers/body back at some point later on in the fic... albeit with a high chance of heavy disfigurement and/or crippling, but that's a given when you have a chunk of your soul ripped out when you're still developing in whatever it is your species uses to reproduce.

I like where its going... but it's kinda choppy on the perspective in this chapter and the last. I feel it would be better if the past segments were all one chapter that Val was remembering during the flight. And the rest was Tia and lulu having thoughts. But that's just me. Still good chap bro!

Celestia you dammed fool. I wonder how this will go after. Will it be a pure privet afire or will she have to announce her sins in a public setting?

Excellent work keep it up

10867873
Yeah sorry, got hit with inspiration to write today that I didn't stop and think about how it was framed. I'll be sure to watch that in the future. Thanks for the criticism!

10867959
I hope Celestia gets punished and twi finds out.

Luna's reaction to what happen to her son(if that's what is implied.)

Not going to lie but this chapter I had trouble keeping up with what was going on and wich was the past and wich was the present

Oooooh celestias in trooouuuubleee

10868113
Yeah sorry, as I said in a different reply, I was hit with inspiration and it backfired. Will return to form next time.

10867819
But isn't Spike a lost cause.?
He already has memories, which is an important factor.

And again Spike souls war replaced by magic, there is no space for his original soul, unless she reaps it out too and erases his memories

Val should do it on a clean subject.Like a new egg
A new egg doesn't have memories, which means it can grow with it's power without problems.
And again Spike sin't really her child anymore.
Not in soul,body and memories

Wow, uh that was a bit more messed up than I had originally guessed. I can absolutely understand why everyone has such harsh punishments in mind.

That being said, I don't know that I agree with them. It's clear that Celestia regrets what happened, and while she should absolutely be removed from power; (and possibly have her power removed) a punishment should, in my mind at least, have a purpose. Prevention of relapse? Sure. Restitution for the victim? Yeah. Pain that doesn't actually benefit anyone? Not so much.

Edit: I vote "give her to Chrysalis to pod" after forcing her public step down and apology (with explanation)

Hope to read more of this

Your welcome and THANK YOU for a great story!

I was more speaking from a biological standpoint, in that he might have something like a delayed super puberty of sorts. I know full well that Val can't just wipe him clean and get a fresh start, because that's just cruel.

In my opinion, should the aforementioned super puberty actually happen, Val should–at the very least–teach him how to use his powers so he doesn't go through something akin to a nuclear meltdown trying to get a hold of it all by himself.

10868542
But his puberty won't happen or at least not with any power behind it.

Val isn't a normal dragon.
That's why Celestia decide to steal the soul/power of her baby because it isn't a also normal dragon native to Equestria.

Not only Spike doesn't have his original soul,he doesn't have normal dragon's soul ,like Ember does .
All he has is magic .

Val should–at the very least–teach him how to use his powers so he doesn't go through something akin to a nuclear meltdown trying to get a hold of it all by himself.

Why would she? Why if he probably doesn't have any power behind that meltdown?
Spike seems to be unable to regain what he lost.
His original soul was the key to his powers and strong development of his body.
So he doesn't have anything that Val has

And because he would need to be a resetted to have his soul back ,then maybe even needed to have his body rebuilded from the scratch , but that is out of question from moral reasons.

Celestia essentially plugged high quality battery out of him and replaced it with low quality one that is a practically everywhere ,magic.

Even when Val will rip the power of her child back from Celestia ,she doesn't have a reason to mess with what Spike has become, with is essentially a magic zombie.
She can't get her child back in any way at this point and giving that power away for others to use for free it is stupid.
That would mean that they gain something from her child's death, like Celestia wanted ,so the best option is for her to keep it and maybe even use it to have another egg if possible.

May I just say I love this theory crafting? and to clarify, Dragon Element is more akin to pure, raw life energy, a primal force rather than a Soul. If Celestia had ripped out the soul, the egg wouldnt have been in stasis, it would have been dead.

10868744
Others started to name it soul so I started doing it too

Luna: "I want to know the truth from her first. If I think she is lying.... then I will step away and let you continue. So, what will it be sister. I think its time we all learn the truth."

Celestia: tells Luna and Val Everything

10868732

Do you think we just should drop this before we get into a nasty argument for no reason?

10868744

First off, I don't quite follow what you mean by that "theory crafting" bit, could you please elaborate? Second, I always kinda thought that dragon element was more akin to anti–magic than anything given it's appearance and what I've seen from gameplay. But that's just me.

10869191
I blame either my phone or my computer's auto correct

Oh this just got really good and I'm not surprised celly did that she tends to stupid shit like this that come to seriously bite her in the ass after she is drivin into a corner she caused

I'm glad I came back to this story. I can't wait for the next chapter

Nice to see that this story is still alive.

10911102
Yeah. Been working on the new chapter but between parenting, work, and over all feeling like crap its been slow

10911110

10962125
I hear you! I'm wishing you luck both at home and with this story

awesome chapter dude, when is the next one coming out if possible?

Celestia gulped. She would have preferred the dragon.

"So you saw the fire wyrm?"
"It's cavalry."
"... I'd rather prefer a dragon!"
"Hundreds, with torches."

-The Thirteenth Warrior

At least there's only one dragon, and the death is quicker.

I absolutely love how you made Celestia into the worst person I've ever met congrats

11098007
Lol thanks. And I I ever get back to writing this one, you'll find out it's worse since she used to be a genuine friend
