//------------------------------// // The day Canterlot fell // Story: Hunter Turned Monster // by Ahrazell //------------------------------// "You swore! You promised to protect him!" "And I will! He isn't dead! But without you around, who can handle his dragon energy?!" Celestia spoke, her eyes hardened, with no regret. "Shut up shut up SHUT UP!" Valstrax roared "I left to protect you all! I have always protected you all, and this is how you pay me back!" "What do you mean? You were only there for Discord! Where were you during the war against Sombra?! Where were you against Terek, against the changelings, against Nightmare-" "Don't you DARE call her that! Its your fault, its all your fault! I fought, blead, and nearly died, over and over to protect you from the threats that would stab you in the back, and the front! I was being tortured by Sombra because I refused to yield, only breaking free due to a opening Luna made, I was gathering and raising a dragon army against Terek, the changelings were no threat until you made them one, and Luna.... You pushed her too much, and like anyone, she snapped. And yet, for all that, you killed my child...." "For the last time-" "NO!" Val roared, her eyes focused on Canterlot tower. "I let you go last time. A mercy for the bitch who was once my friend.... no more. You changed him. You robbed him of his legacy. You had him as nothing more than a servant, and I shutter to think of all the training you put him through to have him so mature, so world weary, and so mannered for one of his age.... No. More." Luna heard, no felt the roars. The dragon element began to caress her being, a power she had not used since the night she turned nightmare. "My dear Val.... Dont worry, I'll stop you from something you will regret, and together learn the truth." She said, ignoring the feared looks she was getting as the moon rose, a blood moon, changing luna as her eyes took on similarities to her friend. "Celestia.... Sister.... You have much to answer for." She said. If a pegasus was to look at the castle, they would see two read lights. One barreling towards Celestia's tower, the other bolting within, heading for the same room. Celestia looked up as she felt her wards break, followed by the sound of an alarm. "So.... Val has come...." She said with a sigh. For a moment, she was tempted to summon the weapons Valstrax had them make, ones made from various parts, broken bones, and scales that had been removed from the silver dragon over the years, made as the insurance incase her friend ever lost her mind, but she stopped. She wouldn't make another mistake. She deserves this. "I am a fool..." She sighed as she stepped out onto her balcony, knowing Val could see her. "At the very least... if she sees me she will avoid hurting any other of my little ponies." She thought out loud as she looked back to that fateful moment, the moment that broke everything. Celestia watched as black and red energy cascaded over her little sister, Luna's eyes turning into slits as with a roar almost similar to Valstrax's, she lifted up the collapsed building with her hooves, allowing the family trapped inside to escape. Her sister had become a terror. Ever since Valstrax and her grew closer, the once little sister grew into her own. Her sister was always powerful, but now she was a force to be respected and feared. Indeed, the moon was outshining the sun, and the sun was none too pleased. Celestia had always been the one to lead them, always been the stronger one, and now her sister was better than her in almost every way. Celesia became spiteful, and started to use the people to her advantage. Under the guise of an illusion, she started a church dedicated to her worship... and started a cult dedicated to their blood hungry goddess of the night, giving them free rein to do whatever atrocities they wanted. People began to fear the night, and instead of watching the hard work her sister put into every star in the sky, they began to worship her. But it still wasn't enough. Even after all this drove her sister mad with anger and grief, she was still jealous and bitter. She looked through Luna's journal and discovered just what happened, and what was the source of her new found almost godlike power, and what she found intrigued her. Luna and Val had tied each other's mana pools, not unlike what Unicorns would do when they planed to marry. The implications of which Celestia of the past didn't care about, what she did care about was that since Valstrax didn't have magic, they tied the next best thing, her dragon element. The source of Valstrax's powers, and Luna's newfound strength. So when Valstrax came in, wounded, still on whatever mission she was on, and begged Celesia with tears in her eyes to look after her child, it was like Hearthwarming came early. But she didn't want just some of the energy, no, she wanted it all. So instead of tying herself to the yet unborn dragon, she absorbed its dragon element. And it wasn't until after she had finished that she realized the price of her actions. The egg was still. No heart beat. No movement. The only sign to her that there was even still life in it was a magical scan, which indicated that it was alive, but likely may never hatch, in a state of limbo. And it was a day later that Valstrax came back.... Celestia of the present collapse into tears. And of course she didn't fix her mistakes after Twilight did the impossible, and replaced the core of dragon element with magic. No, she made more. She never taught Twilight how to properly care for the young wyrm. She had sent Spike off to be disciplined and put through grueling training to be the perfect assistant for Twilight. She even let his name stay, sounding like a pet dog rather than a person, than family. She looked up in time to see silver approach, and hear a deafening boom she has not heard in long time, louder than even a sonic rainboom. Valstrax roared as she broke through shield after shield, the spells nothing compared to her fury. The twin red blurs neared their location at the same time, both chasing the sun. Right before Valstrax could skewer Celestia into paste, She heard a voice, and even in her primal rage, this was one voice she couldn't ignore. "Enough Valkyrie!" Her mate shouted as Luna reached her target first, Her blue eyes tinged with red and her hair as beautiful as the risen blood moon. With a roar Valstrax aimed herself slightly up and tore off the roof of the tower, debris flying down the mountain, thankfully with enough force that whatever wasn't pulverized was sent far off the mountain, avoiding hurting any ponies below. She flew back around and landed with a heavy thud in the now roofless room, growling at Celestia as she circled around to nuzzle the princess of the Night. "Luna..." Luna smiled softly and nuzzled back. "I missed you... but please wait. I want to know the truth from her first. If I think she is lying.... then I will step away and let you continue." She said, Celestia wincing as in her adenine, her own eyes were just as slitted as the other two in the room. "So, what will it be sister. I think its time we all learn the truth." Celestia gulped. She would have preferred the dragon.
