Jeez, lotta hate here. I can't be sure where it's coming from, though maybe it's that this sort of comes off as a rip-off of Fall of Equestria?

8381128

Or, you know, because the chapter was just a description of all the characters being killed.

A bad condept, shoddily executed.

8381154
Well shit, was just the first chapter. A stumbling start is hardly a reason for instant hate.

8381196
That may be true if there was anything else to judge the story on.

Too many deaths, not enough action imo.

8381279
What reason is there to wait?

8381327
Because this is an obvious setup/prologue chapter in order to get the story running, and is unlikely to be representative of what the meat of the story is going to be about?

Regardless, I don't see anything worthy of the mass downvotes it's gotten so far. The purpose of upvotes/downvotes is not to be your personal opinion of the story, but to reflect your judgment of the general quality regardless of subject. Downvotes should be reserved for stories that are of low quality (while this one isn't stellar, with a few typos and such, it's not bad), that are designed to be trollfics and the like, or for breaking rules like plagiarism. "I don't like the subject matter of X, so I'll downvote it" makes the system completely useless for the people who are interested in said subject matter. Downvoting a story just because it has murder and rape is no more helpful than downvoting all stories that have say, Spike, in it.

I can't say for certain, but from the description, the story seems to be heading towards following Twilight as she tries to cope with her country and friends being irrepairably ravaged, and hew new status as a slave, an exploration of survival, grief, and suffering (with possible sex scenes sometimes). To that end, a chapter like this is necessary, to both describe the situation Twilight is in, and to clearly paint what type of monsters she's trapped with.

Normally I would upvotw stories simply for having rap, that's my fetish. I downvoted this because of the numerous typos that should be easily avoid if you ran it through any writing program. There are even typos in the description. That immediately turns me off on a story.

My other issue is it's just too short of a set up for this kind of story. I thought the description sounded really interesting and then noticed the word count. It's not that hard to release multiple chapters in one go and this is a situation that could benefit from the practice.

"upvotw" "rap" "easily avoid"

There's something to be said about irony here, but for the life of me I don't see it.

Your overall point makes sense, though.

Some fics should be fixed if their author won't or can't improve them, while other should not. This reeks of Fall of Equestria, one of those fics that should not be fixed at all, even under diferent name, but instead best left forgotten and lost.

8381466
That's what I get for not watching what I type on my phone. :rainbowlaugh:

While this is in fact a answer to FoE, it is what should have been FoE: a fic about Equestria being conquered and NOT being turned into a sick sexual fantasy (something that is trashed by a few anti-FoE people).

The Caribou took the Crystal Empire and Equestria through deceit and trickery, along with using corruption magic. The Tambelonians used brute force and battle.

Dainn's Caribou were few and ha to use brainwashed stallions to take Equestria. Tambelon has the numbers and the wealth to take on Equestria in a war and win.

Also the Tambelonians are based less off the G1 version and more on Mesopotamian and other Near East civilizations with their life style and tactics., such as deporting conquered peoples. The Caribou are the Atypical Barbarians.

In short, while this story was inspired by FoE, it is more of a rebuttal of FoE itself.

8381279
in a situation like this the writer should have waited till there was more. If he really wanted a prologue he could release it and chapter 1 at the same time, in stead of as one big chapter, but there needed to be more

8381680
I am already working on Chapter one and I am going to make it a bit more longer. It will take time but I am sure you might like it :)

HM this piqued my interest, hope to see more soon!

The purpose of upvotes/downvotes is not to be your personal opinion of the story,

Considering that they are alternatively known as likes/dislikes, I disagree with that statement.

8381927
Then you'd be wrong. Upvotes/downvotes have a different purpose on websites like reddit, because 99% of posts are short, meaning votes are primarily indicators of popularity, and that's fine. However, on sites where people need ways to pre-judge the quality of something before perusing it, like Fimfiction, it's a system that's supposed to serve that need. Some might call them likes/dislikes, but that's irrelevant to their actual use.

If people upvote or downvote based on simple preference, then the system becomes completely useless for stories with subjects that many find distasteful, and the opposite is also true. If practically all stories themed like this one have extremely low upvote/downvote ratios (with variances being based more on circumstance than actual quality), then there's no way for interested people to get any information on how good the story is, because well-written stories and pieces of junk score practically the same.

Different purpose nothing, the popularity aspect is pretty much the same here as it is there.
For example, the Feature Box on the front page is an automated process influenced entirely by how popular a story is based on views and likes within a certain timeframe, or how much "heat" it has, it does not pick what to feature based on quality.

However, on sites where people need ways to pre-judge the quality of something before perusing it, like Fimfiction, it's a system that's supposed to serve that need. Some might call them likes/dislikes, but that's irrelevant to their actual use.

I will admit that all sounds good on paper, but in actual practice:

If people upvote or downvote based on simple preference,

There is no "if," that's exactly what a good chunk of users on this site do.

All three of you are right. One said what it should be, because in that way, things will be the best for this website. Another said what it currently is, because no one really cares, so that's how it should be. And the other states how and why it currently is that.

Back onto the topic... I forgot what I was going to comment here. I'm just going to write something.

Uh, good work, nice read.

Pie.

8383286
You are correct. I believe that's also why the short-lived idea of hiding comments with a certain number of dislikes was dropped relatively quickly after being implemented: The mods realised it led to commenters being punished for posts that contained perfectly valid information people just didn't want to hear.

I have one question which is a large plot hole if never answered. Who's moving the sun and moon?

Quite honestly I don't see what's with all the downvotes at this time. Sure, there's quite a few grammar mistakes, but that apart from that it isn't that bad for it's genre, certainly not enough to explain over a 3/1 dislike to like ratio.

Just wondering, but is this a kind of Ponified version of the Israelite Babylonian Captivity from the Old Testament?

8384343
You hit the mark. It is based on the Babylonian conquest of Judah. I decided on using that as the building for the idea of the story.

8384027
People don't like slaves stories for some reason.

8383598
No one... for it is space... for it is SCIENCE!

This Grand Vizier and his plans sounds a bit like a certain Jaffar. Sounds like he has certain Imperial ambitions.

8384435
Babylonian, you say? So I won't expect them singing "Deliver Us" from the Prince of Egypt?

8392222
No.................................................:facehoof:

8392356
Aww, it would've been appropriate. Well, just gonna use it for my Fall of Equestria story, then.

Babylonian you say? Does that mean that an equivalent of the Persians would appear in later chapters and take over Tambelon?

Why does this story have so many dislikes? I mean, it can't be that bad, right? ...Right?

8403832
Simple, it's because a lot of people get angry or turned off a story when they see their most loved characters either brutally murdered, raped or enslaved especially if it's by some powerful empire that came out of nowhere and suddenly invaded Equestria. Take Fall of Equestria for an example, most of its stories have a large number of dislikes.

Still wishing for the Persian equivalents to come in and kick the Tambelonians' asses.
