This is so sad, but so beautifull at the same time...

7157560 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

7157564 I dont seem to be able to like it on my phone, sorry.

This is very sad indeed. I hope that we can get at least one Stallion Alicorn in the form of Shining Armor. I also think the mane 5 should be also.

thats a great story, i'm crying

seems to Imply all Alicorns are immortal.. I got three guesses what Twilight is doing, has been doing for centuries. She's probably wacked out of her gourde and obsessively trying to recreate life on Equestria. The Sister probably are off in space looking for some other planet to live on. Thus poor Cadance and Flurry are left with nothing to do but lament on what was :( Not a fun time to be an immortal.

This should really be a series! It just feels incomplete at the end. I would TOTALLY read it

God, this is a beautiful story but very depressing.:raritycry: You'd think Shining would have been made a Alicorn to be with his wife for all eternity, unless of course Cadence is like Twilight and not really immortal.

Yeah, that's the part about immortality that everyone always loves to forget about. Immortal means forever. Worlds turn to ash, stars burn out, and you'll still be sitting there, waiting. It's not all it's cracked up to be. Fun in the meantime, but ultimately? Nothing lasts forever. Except you.

Depends on the type of immortality.

If they can die, it's not really immortality. "Eternal youth" gets its own name for a reason.

7159404
Eternal youth is a type of immortality, and has it's own term for the same reason that primate is a different term than mammal.

im·mor·tal·i·ty
/ˌi(m)ˌmôrˈtalədē/
noun
the ability to live forever; eternal life.

The ability to do something does not necessarily mean that you're forced to do so, only that you have the capability to do so.

In addition, immortality is a state that some real life creatures have, and they can certainly be killed by injury or disease:

Yeah, I'm done talking to you now. When someone starts doing that condescending "dictionary quote" thing, you know it isn't worth the bother.

A very insightful piece. The one thing I kept thinking once I finished was that -- in this Universe you've set up -- Flurry could be viewed as the gift from Shining that can stay with Cadance forever. That's my silver lining way of looking at a piece otherwise drenched in thoughtful sorrow.

7159755 Never thought of it that way, but that's certainly a brighter side to look at. Generally, I'm not a fan of the whole 'immortality angst' trope, but I thought the introduction of Flurry Heart provided a different way to attack it. Thanks for the feedback.

7159486
I apologize if I sounded condescending, but that was not my intention. The dictionary is a simple resource, nothing more, and I personally don't see anything inherently condescending about using it to back an argument.

7159404 In high fantasy Elves are nearly always considered to be immortal yet they die in the books. There are two accepted schools of thought, one your not going to die ever and the other one is you are not going to die unless an outside force kills you. Both are considered to be immortal.

7159805 No problem. Thanks for the thoughtful story. :P

Think this story could use a Dark tag. The idea of just the 5 of them living forever in a long dead world.

7160457 I guess I didn't think about that, but you make a good point. Tags changed!

7159861
The condescending part is where you apparently think I'm some kind of moron who doesn't know what words mean, needs you to look crap up in the dictionary for me and quotes this at me as if it mattered to anything or as if I hadn't been perfectly aware of that when I said it.

If you don't see how that's a contemptuously arrogant and condescending thing to do at someone, I frankly shudder to think how you even interact with other people.

7161474
English dictionaries contain over a hundred thousand words; not knowing the precise definition of every single word you use, read, or otherwise encounter doesn't imply that someone is a moron, nor that I or anyone else think that you are. I know that I certainly don't know the perfectly precise definition of every word that I use (even if I know their general meanings), and I find no shame in needing to look up a word in the dictionary or be corrected every once in a while, nor did I make any slights on your intelligence or vocabulary in my post. The dictionary is a legitimate tool for people of all intelligences and vocabularies, not some kind of dummy's guide only for the slow or new to the language. Given that you made an incorrect claim as to the definition of immortality, maybe you shouldn't make such claims about the concept if you're "perfectly aware" of the actual definition. Even putting aside the dictionary, dozens of examples in fiction, mythology, and scientific fields all place eternal youth (without being completely immune to death) under the purvey of immortality.

Also, if you ask me, claiming that the dictionary itself doesn't matter when we're literally talking about the definiton of a word is far more arrogant, considering that's literally the situation where it matters most.

7161474
7161586 Guys, I'm not taking sides here, but if you're going to argue, could you do it somewhere else?

This was very good. You handled the topic of immortality very well and showed its draw backs perfectly.

Though now I am.left question what happened to everyone else and what the other alicorn are up to.

7276621 Thanks. I'm certainly glad you liked it. And if you'll excuse a shameless plug, feel free to check out my other stories as well. :trollestia::pinkiesmile:

7277073 was already planing on it just based on this story alone I'm sure I'll find something of interest.
