I honestly wanted to leave the Warden as ambiguous as possible, but this is as solid a backstory as any. If I were to give him a backstory, it'd almost certainly be something like this.

It's truly a crime that this fic only has as many views as it does. Superb description of the environment, the characters, the use of different text colors and size for the Warden, everything.
I've always loved the idea of something "beyond" Tartarus, something that even Discord or Grogar couldn't fully comprehend. A land beyond concepts as pathetic as "good" or "evil".
He is neither light nor dark, good nor evil, paragon nor renegade. He does not hold back the gods for fun, or a reward, or responsibility. He simply does.
He is The Warden.

And yep, that's exactly the feel I was going for with the Warden. Part of something very much "Other" to the main world of Equestria, that Twilight barely catches a glimpse of. Also, I'm glad you liked the colour and size changes! I wasn't sure if it might be seen as too gimmicky, but I liked it.
