The concept of being married to the Princess of Love always seemed weird to me, at least assuming a monogamous marriage. No matter how good a husband (or wife) you were, it seems like you would always have doubts that you were worthy to be the only one loved by such a being.

Then again, Princesses in MLP teeter wildly back and forth between "practically deities" and "basically just normal ponies."

“And Flash,” Shining Armor called, causing the pegasus to pause just as he was about to leave the room. “Pack warm clothing; it’s called the Frozen North for a reason.”
Flash Sentry smiled. “Yes, sir. Thank you again, Captain.”
As the door closed with a gentle click, Captain Shining Armor turned his gaze back to the picture on his desk. He reached out a hoof and gently stroked the frame. “Ah, Mi Amore Cadenza,” he sighed. “Why must you affect us poor stallions so?”

Great twist, and it also reminds us that there must be some sort of extraordinary circumstance that got exactly one non-Crystal Pony in the Crystal Guard, presumably assigned there by Shining Armor.
