Reunion - Chapter 64

Winter has passed in only a blink of an eye. The seasons march on uncaring that some may miss the quiet and the stillness that winter imparted.

I am to make my first public appearance in a few days (Sister tells me I attended a party shortly after my redemption but I have no memory of the event). It is the night pony’s spring festival. I must admit I am somewhat relieved that I will be among ponies that at least understand me; though the near-worship I receive from my ponies can grow tiresome.

Sister regrets that I will not be able to attend the ‘Grand Galloping Gala’. I do not, a night among pompous nobles and reaching vassals would grate on my nerves more than I care to mention. Sister has even promised some “Special entertainment” but in my mind nothing can redeem a night spent among such elevated idiots.

Author's Note:

In Equestria Girls it is implied that the Grand Galloping Gala is in the fall but then the timeline in relation to seasons makes even less sense so for the purpose of me not spending hours trying to figure it out we'll just say it's in the spring.

Yes we know Luna missed the first Gala attended by the Elements of Harmony, and I think she will regret missing the "fun". It does kind of make sense that Luna might not remember the party Ponyville threw right after her return, she was physically weakened and likely not fully back mentally yet, most of that day could be a blur. Lauren's explanation on Luna's change in appearance, that Luna grew as her power returned, was pretty much accepted. And yes the timing of the episodes does make things seem off, but if season 1 starts in the summer then it makes more sense than the Gala would happen in the spring, and that events of Fall Weather Friends is chronologically BEFORE Winter Wrap Up despite the episode order, in this case logic trumps episode order.

Hmn, so the comedy of errors that Celestia arranged to happen at the Gala were intended to make it entertaining for Luna? That may be a bit of a leap from what was stated in Luna's journal entry, but I somewhat like that idea.

In EQG it was the "Fall Formal" not the gala... Maybe... I need to watch it again, but also I'm pretty sure the vast majority of bronies disregard the movie as far as story goes, I know I do.

It's a pity Luna missed the GGG. I think she would have found it amusing. Naturally, it is entirely in-character that Celestia would have set up the whole fiasco from the start, just for the lulz.
