Mare talk. I’ve heard of it but Moon Shadow isn’t exactly one to gossip over a hooficure. It isn’t like I think the princess shouldn’t have a pony to talk to but seeing her like that just didn’t seem right. I guess you would call Cross Circuit her friend but that seems more of an eccentricity than anything else. Let the princess have her little arcade and it’s keeper to help her relax, you know what I mean?
Seeing her sitting with the harpist giggling over some joke and with eyes red from crying she looked like she could have been any mare in Equestria. I’ve spent years guarding and fighting for her but I’ve never seen her look like—like she’s a pony before a princess.

Welcome Back!
Yes, she's a pony first.
That's the tragedy of Celestia and Luna's lives, of course. They've both got so wrapped up in the 'Princess', that they've largely forgotten how to do 'Pony'. They have become remote, emotionally detached and isolated when they need advice and companionship. I've lost count of the number of stories written around that theme and the reason for them is that most fans can see that both Princesses need somepony to whom they can be open and honest in their thoughts and feelings.
