While working late one-night Principal Celestia happens upon a bundled up Sunset Shimmer sleeping in the school library. Realizing the truth of Sunset's living situation she takes her in and lets her sleep in her guest room. As events unfold and with a little bit of help their relationship evolves to one far from that of a teacher and student.

This story is a sequel to Direction

The Element of Magic has been stolen. Twilight has to venture through a magic mirror in order to get it back. On the other side, she finds a world filled with creatures she thought were legend, and yet they all wear familiar faces. Now, with the help of a local principal and a few helpful teens, she needs to track down Celestia's former student and get her Element back before it's too late.

This story is a sequel to Celestia's Headlights

Celestia is bordering on her forties, her sister, her thirties. Over their lives, that ten year gap had always meant so much. It had been the difference between Celestia graduating, and Luna's first years in school. It was the difference between maturity, and Celestia's role in Luna's life as her 'big sister'.

It was nights when Luna wanted to know why she hurt, and Celestia was the only one who she trusted to explain. It was the difference between sisterly love, or sisterly rivalry, depending on how you looked at it.

Ten years.

For all it was, for all they were supposed to be together, for everything Celestia wished it could have been. Ten years only became the distance between them.

It's true, Celestia has a lot on her plate: the stewardship of Canterlot High School has recently fallen into her lap; her dear younger sister has recently started a job at the very same high school; and the details of her romantic life are... best left unsaid. Any sane individual wouldn't want to add a child to that mix, but those adorable bright blue eyes were irresistible.

A life spent seeking power, in which she viewed others as only tools or obstacles, left Sunset Shimmer a smoking wreck in the bottom of a crater.

Now she has to figure out where to go from there.

This is a "filling in the gaps" story. It takes the Equestria Girls movies as canon then tells a story without the the discontinuities caused by the gaps between movies or, sometimes, between scenes.

This picks up where Equestria Girls left off and will follow Sunset's life at least as far as the ending of Rainbow Rocks. The early focus will be on how she went sobbing and alone at the end of Equestria Girls to reasonably well adjusted at the beginning of Rainbow Rocks. After that it will follow the plot of Rainbow Rocks to the point where she was no longer a pariah.

Anybody could tell you that a high school worth of students would never be enough to conquer a whole world right? A part of Sunset wanted to die the night of the Fall Formal. In a way she succeeded.

The magic did its best to put her back together again, but there's a reason everybody notes that Sunset is like a new person after the Fall Formal don't they?

It's almost like a new Sunset was born that night... and she needs help in becoming a real person again.

Trigger warning - At some point in the story, characters may discuss heavy topics, such as suicide, cutting, violence, teen pregnancy, homelessness, among others. This is the story I will be channeling my darker side.

It did not take long for everyone to notice Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash's absence during the events of "Pinkie Spy".

A retelling of Sunset Shimmer's redemption, starting from the night of the Fall Formal and going through the events immediately following the Friendship Games.

Author's notes: I've been working on this story for over a year. I'll admit it contains a lot of elements that appear commonly in other Sunset stories -- this is just my take on it. I'll try to give credit where credit is due -- although nearly every idea in this story occurred to me independently, others have actually published stories using many of them first.

The thrust of the story is to take material written for ages say 10-13 (i.e. the EQG movies/shorts/specials) and age it up to make it more dramatic and meaningful. Probably my favorite thing to write was the conversations that must have taken place, both in the human world and in Equestria, but that aren't depicted in any movie or book.

Full Disclosure: Sunset's friends play their usual crucial roles in her redemption and growth, but this is a Momlestia/Lunauntia story too. And there is no shipping. Romance isn't Sunset's priority as she crawls out of the darkness of her former life. Yet.

I had to add the AU tag after Forgotten Friendship came out. Up until then, this story was fairly canon-compatible. Now, it diverges a bit.

Good-natured warning: Feels. Lots of feels.

When the alicorn princesses are taken by a sudden illness that prevents them from raising the sun or setting the moon, Raven and Spike discuss alternatives. Suddenly, Starlight teleports in and announces she has an idea.

This probably won't end well.
