When ponies go missing after Nightmare Night, and a group of shady investigators show up and practically take over Ponyville, Rainbow Dash considers herself lucky. But then strange things begin to happen to her anyway. Why does she feel so sick all of a sudden? Who is this mare speaking to her in her mind? Why do bright lights hurt so much?

I should feel safe, knowing that Chrysalis has been vanquished. But now, I'm having trouble sleeping. I'm used to staying up all night...but not like this.

Rainbow Dash's parents were killed by a serial killer when she was 10. Her last memory of them was star gazing on a grassy hillside in Ponyville. Every day she goes to that same grassy hillside and gazes up at the stars. That's where she meets Soarin. Soarin's mom was also murdered, right after his father let the family. The two of team up to find the murderer and seek revenge, for he is still out there, killing more innocent lives. What will happen when they find out the shocking truth about the killer's identity and will love blossom in the process.

At first, they had expected the experience to be relaxing, though unfortunately...Rainbow Dash forcefully dragged them out of Twilight's castle and forced them to train! Soon after a strenuous, but fun race, Twilight realizes that she hasn't preened in a while...Flash can sense it. Flash Sentry and Rainbow Dash are going to teach Twilight how to preen properly. This first date couldn't have ended sweeter...

As an unstoppable hurricane bears down on Manehatten, Rainbow Dash has to face the unpleasant truth that not all of life's obstacles can be overcome. Sometimes you just have to do your best to get by. And when Dash gets the opportunity to become a Wonderbolt for a day, doing her best takes on a whole new, unexpected, meaning.

Twilight Sparkle, distraught by the death of Rainbow Dash, begins to bend new laws made by Celestia to benefit the remaining Elements of Harmony and the rest of Ponyville.

A side story explaining how Twilight and Celestia's relationship became strained; briefly alluded to in the last chapter of Friendship is Forever. It is highly recommended that Friendship is Forever be read before this.
