This story is a sequel to Sunset Shimmer: The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well

It is Hearth's Warming Eve in Ponyville, and the town is celebrating. Sunset Shimmer is at a party with her friends when she spots a suspicious figure leaping across the rooftops of Ponyville. Donning her Mare-Do-Well costume, she goes out to investigate, but not before Rarity offers to give the heroine a festive makeover for the occasion.

A one-shot companion story to "Sunset Shimmer: The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well." Reading the original story can give insight as to how Sunset arrived in Ponyville and became the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well; however, since this one-shot doesn't contain spoilers for the main plotline, it is not required.

Things have changed in Canterlot High after the events of the Fall Formal. Sunset Shimmer no longer bullies anyone, and the school is now free from her iron grip and all are happy about it. Well...everyone except Sunset Shimmer herself. Even after multiple events to atone for her previous actions, most students won't do anything but shoot her a cold glance. For the first time in her life, Sunset Shimmer feels alone and unwanted in the world. This may all change when the last person she'd ever expect to speak to again asks her one question.

One day, Twilight gets a peculiar letter and exciting news: Sunset Shimmer is coming to Equestria! Twilight and her friends already have lots of plans for when she gets here, but Sunset has something very specific she wants to do first: something that is long overdue.

It's been a few weeks since Twilight returned to Equestria. All seems to go well until Sunset senses something wrong with the student body. To make matters worse, Human Twilight has started snooping around the school for proof of magic. With Princess Twilight unable to come to Sunset and the humane five's aid, it's up to the bacon haired teen to set things right and to prove herself worthy of her element.

It's been a while since Twilight stepped foot into Canterlot High, six months in fact. And now that she's back, she's got something that will change Sunset forever.

Sunset Shimmer is having the worst day of her life. She used to be important. She was the personal student of Princess Celestia. She was a future leader of Equestria. She was the kind of mare that everypony envied.

Today, it's all crashing down around her.

Alternate Universe: What if Sunset Shimmer hadn't gone through the mirror?

The Element of Magic is lost, the portal to Equestria is closed, and Sunset Shimmer is staring down 30 more moons in the human world with despair. But from the ruins of her plans comes hope in the form of Star Swirl the Bearded, a ghostly guide left behind by the Elements of Harmony. Can Sunset Shimmer learn from her failures and earn the friendship of a few friends? Or will the demon one day come back? Who is Sunset Shimmer now?

Fills in the gap from Equestria Girls to Rainbow Rocks, diverging slightly from continuity to tell a more complete story, slowly building Sunset Shimmer back up as a character worthy of having the HuMane 6 as her friends.

Planned to continue on to fill the gaps to the Friendship Games, but that is still TBD.

*** SIGNIFICANT RE-WRITE: Yes, I completely removed the first Arc of the story and integrated parts of it into the second. This has, in my opinion, significantly improved the focus of the tale and creates a more complete story. I apologize for making such a drastic change, but as I continued to edit and re-edit it, I kept coming back to the idea that the first Arc simply wasn't contributing anything exciting to the story.
