The draconequuses have always been feared and hated by the civilized creatures of the world. Naturally skilled at magic and with a penchant for mischief, they have long been a thorn in the sides of many and something to be detested.

Meet Cantrip, a young female draconequus and one of the last of her kind. For fourteen years she has lived in hiding and fear for when the ponies and griffons would come to take her too. Just another brutish creature to be wiped out.

But she won't go quietly, and what someponies might not know is that monsters aren't merely born.

They're made.

Note: This is technically an alternate universe, though it was intentionally written to mesh with the canon universe as seamlessly as possible. It shouldn't matter much.

If it was their own choice, or some kind of punishment nobody really knows nor remembers. Seperated from their kin the ponies created their own society, populating the earth beneath the earth. The result was the birth of a nation that remained nameless until the very first Alicorn emerged from this unique society.

Since then their nation has been called Nocturia, and the bloodline of the very first Alicorn ruled over its subjects and the six existing tribes. For all this time they were seperating themselves from other ponies...

Until the day the King under the Mountain woke up from his coma, only to find the legacy of his ancestors being threatened by his own subjects.

Twilight Sparkle never said she believed in sea ponies. She never said she didn't, either. But like all chance encounters with the unknown, she's about to learn something that will change her life forever.

But when the tides of life suddenly turn, rocky waters are sure to follow.

Charis is an earth pony philosopher with no cutie mark who has a desire to see the world through a perspective other than her own. She keeps pestering Discord to become his student, much to Discord's annoyance. Every day she asks, and every day, he says "no."

Until one day, he changes his mind and takes on a magic-less earth pony as his protege. Now that he has relented, the draconequus is delighted with his student, realising something has been missing in his life.

Discord, now reformed, now has the Princesses watching him, waiting for him to corrupt the innocent earth pony filly.

Eventually, he does something far worse.

Crystal Ponies, on the other hoof, are peacekeepers tasked with spreading Hope and Love through the Crystal Heart. They are one and the same, two sides of the same coin - Windigos in war time, Crystal Ponies in peace time. 'Frostfires', Starswirl once called them - ponies who grow cold in hate, who become warm in Love. With Equestria finally at peace Windigos are few and far between. It had been centuries since the Crystal Empire was last led by a Frostfire Emperor.

Warm Hug is a young blank flank crystal pony, seemingly incapable of the happiness and love required of his kind. Shunned by his kinsman, he spent years wandering. That was until Tirek's invasion of Canterlot forged an unexpected friendship between him and the unlikeliest band of friends.

But their friendship would be sorely tested when an apocalyptic snowstorm strikes all of Equestria and freezes the entire surface world. With Princess Celestia and Princess Cadence frozen solid and Warm Hug accused of high treason, will their Fire of Friendship light the way or will they fall prey to the frost consuming their world? With the world once again in turmoil, never have the Windigo peacekeepers been more loathed yet needed.
