On a calm and snowy night, just a few days before Hearth's Warming, Spike decides to check up on Twilight to see if she's doing okay.

Twilight has been through much hardship recently, but thankfully, over the past year she's gotten much better since. However, with fears still lingering in Spike's mind, he wants to be absolutely certain that Twilight's improved well-being stays that way.

And he'll do it by doing what he does best at. By being right by her side. There for her. Always.

We all know how the end of the story went. Starlight was shown the disastrous consequences of her time travel spell, she revealed her past, Twilight took her under her wing as her own student and she mends her ways.

But what if that wasn't the case?

Even when the results of Starlight's meddling of the past is shown to her, she rejects the offer of friendship and still vows to never stop her attempts to exact revenge on the Mane Six and ruin their connection. Thus Twilight is faced with only one final option...

Starlight never thought that Twilight was actually being serious.

What would have happened if Starlight hadn't turned herself over to Twilight? If she rejected friendship, even after being given a chance to come back?

Starlight Glimmer is strong. She always has been. She always will be.
But Twilight wants that to change.

Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer are engaged in a time travel battle and no matter what she tries, Twilight just can't get Starlight to stop altering the past. The battle is growing old for Starlight so she decides to end it once and for all.

It should have been so simple, just make some friends, find the elements and beat the villain that tries to make the night last forever, then find out she's Celestia's actual sister and absolve her as they hug… Well, perhaps not simple per say, but expected.

So then why when they defeated Nightmare Moon did Luna ignore her sister Celestia? And why did she instead hugged Twilight as if she was happier to see her then her sister? Why was it Celestia who soon after groveled and begged Luna for forgiveness, rather then the other way around? And what's with this godmother thing?

For that matter, what else changed?

Diamond Tiara lives a happy, peaceful teenage life away from her mother's influence--and, more importantly, with the mare she loves. Still, as she coaches Apple Bloom on Saddlespeare and remembers pieces of her past, she can't help but wonder if the saying is true--and if her so-called "love" is really something darker.
