On the last mission to save Equestria, Rainbow Dash was hurt. Not critically and she'll heal, but for now she's grounded. But she also promised that she'd do a Sonic Rainboom at the next Wonderbolts show for Scootaloo's parents, and she is not going to let her girl down.

Solution: get another Rainbow Dash.

There's just two problems.

First, Spitfire knows her team backwards and forwards and she's not fooled.

Second, the human Rainbow Dash doesn't actually know how to do a Rainboom as a pony.

I'm sure this won't cause any problems.

Cadance just got done dealing with the end of the world. Turns out, it never stops ending.

Another piece that's more concept than story. Here, I try to place Cadance into the world in a way that makes sense to the confusing mess of headcanon I've got up here in this noggin of mine.

Rainbow Dash has managed to get herself into yet more trouble: following a crash that killed stunned the Gift Givers of the Grove, she is being forced to take up the mantle of the Spirit of Hearth's Warming.

Trapped in the hell of delivering gifts for the rest of eternity against her will, she has only one solution: taking the Grand Council of Holidays to court to dispute the Rule of the Clause and free her.

Unfortunately, she doesn't actually know any lawyers.

Also unfortunately, her best bet for a substitute is Starlight Glimmer.

Chrysalis reluctantly agrees, and finds that even though she doesn’t feel any love from Fluttershy, she feels fulfilled in other ways. The changeling queen goes through some inexplicable changes as she gets used to her new life, and wonders if it’s possible for her to love somepony else.

Over the course of a week in the City-State of Cloudsdale, a frustrated Mi Amore Cadenza makes a series of bad choices that kind of make her into a monster.
