This story is a sequel to Shadow’s in Equestria: A Sonic the Hedgehog/MLP Crossover

Surge the Tenrec and Kit the Fennec are two of the latest villains to confront Sonic and Tails. Both are missing their memories and have no sense of true purpose. Feeling out of place, they decide to destroy heroes and villains alike.

One day, as the diabolical duo was fighting Robotnik's forces, their creator Dr. Starline activates a machine that uses the power of the Warp Topazes to initiate warping, only for it to backfire and hit both Surge and Kit by mistake. The villains wake up to find themselves in another world all together. While exploring their new surroundings, Surge and Kit come across a familiar black and red hedgehog.

Wallflower not so discreetly invites Sunset to meet up by the sea. It becomes a date in less than a minute. Emotions are shared and sandwiches had.

Sunset Shimmer had graduated from Canterlot Highschool and has now stuck herself with the unbearable thought of what she would do with her life after her story was finished. However, something managed to steer her on track: a proposal from a long time lover of hers.

The story follows brief scenes that unfold throughout the seasons in which the wedding would be planned, ranging from a proposal in the summer, finding her best man during the fall, meeting her in-law during the winter holiday, and lastly, getting married in the spring.

Inspired by the first contest in the Sunset Shipping Trilogy and, naturally, the third part in the Sunsetting Wallflower trilogy.

Wallflower Blush wakes up in a strange land, and are unable to seem to focus their thoughts. There's only one thing they can seem to figure out, their arms feel weird.

A psychological horror story

The paths of Sour Sweet, Wallflower Blush, and Dazzlings finally cross. It will be a night that most of them will have a difficult time remembering.

Since the acquisition of the Memory Stone, Wallflower Blush has become more and more forgotten by the students around her. Luckily, she gets the opportunity to become a “fairy” to whom anyone can talk about anything and be sure that the conversation will be forgotten.

To Wallflower, this is a perfect world. The garden and its fairy are her everything. If she has her way, this will stay forever.

But the world disagrees.

Destabilized by Equestrian magic, Wallflower’s world is dying. For its sake, Sunset had to leave forever. All Wallflower can do is hold on to the last connection they still have: the journal Sunset left behind.

Review

Long-Distance is a wrenching story and more than one of our judges said that, though they won’t ever be able to bring themselves to re-read it, it will stay with us for a long time. Everything is ending, it may or may not be anyone’s fault, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The time it will take to reach that final tragedy doesn’t make it any less remote. Sunset and Wallflower are separated across worlds, and have only Sunset’s journal to link them. One of them will die and the other will live on. They’re left to learn how to cope with and share and grieve the time they have left.

Long-Distance is superbly written, with just enough detail about the nature of the tragedy to make it feel realized without overwhelming readers with exposition. There’s a novel’s worth of story in this short story, but none of it feels compressed. Sunset and Wallflower’s tightly written, wrenching, and affecting, and the last chapter left us breathless.

The result was an emotional tale of making the best out of a bad situation through inevitability and – if you’ll pardon the title drop – long distance. Bicyclette’s work is a delightful story that exemplifies how to Show a hard-hitting story through meaningful dialogue, contextual narrative clues, vivid scene setting, and a firm grasp of the characters and their struggles.
