Spike is friends with Ember, the new Dragonlord, and Thorax, a nice Changeling. They've never meet each other and Spike wants them to be friends.

Sure, go to the Gala, they said. Get out more, they'd recommended. But really, did she absolutely have to wear this frilly dress out in public? Dragons didn't do cute. She'd be the laughingstock of dragonkind if anyone saw her. Perhaps just sticking away from the gala altogether was a wise idea. Burned away at her, the shame of it all, if anyone were ever to catch a glimpse of her. Perhaps, just perhaps a kindred spirit is what Smolder needed.

Through her letters to Ember, Twilight finds out that the Dragonlord may be able to locate Spike's parents. A trip to the Dragon Lands and an emotional journey ensues!

As she was discussing buisness with them a young purple dragon felt like being generous today, and brought her an enormous cart of rare jewels and gemstones. After realizing Smolder has not been attending class at the School of Friendship for a day, Spike tries to get to the bottom of her personal family problems.

Author's Notes: I know I said my last fanfic was the last one, but this one is very short! It's about a theory I've been having! As far-fetched this theory sounds, I believe it could work in the main series!

Dragons are something of an enigma to Equestria. Those who do live within the borders are largely reclusive, either building their hoards or sleeping away the decades. So far as dragons who are active in everyday life in Ponyville go, Smolder represents a 100% increase in the population.

Twilight cannot let this opportunity slip her by. Enough time has passed for it to not be a diplomatic faux pas to sit Smolder down and grill her for much needed details on her species, not only for the sake of science, but for the benefit of the young dragon in her personal care. Naturally, the topic of death comes up.

Twilight handles that about as well as you might expect.

Discussion of death is largely academic and intended to be comedic but I've tagged it teen to be safe. No actual death or scenes of violence are shown so I didn't think the death tag itself was needed. It's also tagged for comedy as that was my intent, but only you can tell me if it's actually funny or not.

Twilight discovers that, even with the collective research, intellect and intuition of the entire Equestrian archaeological community at her back, nothing beats the source material when it comes to archaeology.

Life has pushed Smolder and Ocellus into close proximity; hundreds of reasons now exist for them to be in physical contact with one another, and hundreds of ways now exist for them to make it happen. Good or bad, neither Smolder nor Ocellus would change such moments for the world.
