Those two quotes made me laugh pretty hard.
see anything that should be added between the green words?
I honestly have no idea what you were trying to say.
Anyways, good chapter Nav. If you need a proof reader, I'm always available.
One thing that bothered me Nav. I was going to wait till you woke up but I'll probably forget.
The ring nullified the muffle spell yet the spell for making his weapons non-lethal i.e. his fangs (If any) didn't actually kill Shining Armor. I was wondering if Luna actually wanted him dead or something. I don't know, the part is just a bit confusing.
1946165
For the 3rd quote you posted, he meant that the sound played when they blew the trumpets literally meant "Hold your position". So once they here that tune from the trumpets, they do just that.
Wow this fic has made me laugh more than any other fic in existence. Good job and I hope you keep writing.
Yey for the idiotic ponies losing to human style warfare! Granted its human warfare from a couple hundred years ago, but still human. Now imagine if Nav had already perfected his gun? That would have been most enjoyable.
The art of war with a chaotically clever mind, there are so many things that can be said about this chapter. However listing them all would take too long and would not fully describe how amazing it is. Good chapter in every way, a war won in two days is definitely some kind of record. Nav could improve the gun with a silencer, it would still make noise but it would not be as loud and it would aid in accuracy. And since Flo has all of Navs memories, she could help by using knowledge of chemistry to make a better powder and physics to make it more accurate.
why didnt you do anything with the creepy fog. Flo brought attention to it but you never did anything with it
1948684
Because I don't think anyone wants to see Nav get raped with tendrils of darkness.
1948739 true but you could of had is mess with the minds of the players or deactivated some of the non lethal aspects of the game, instead you just left an unfinished pot point. still i liked the way it ended it just bugged me
I loved this story from its very beginning, still do.
All's fair in love and war mate.
He planned like a professional and executed it perfectly.
This chapter had quite the great ending. Also, why do I never see false passwords used in media? Have more than one password. 'The skies are clear' for the call sign, 'bright skies are good fortune' for 'I have been compromised, follow with caution'. And so on and so on...
1948949
There are, but the soldier couldn't lie. He gave Nav the password Nav needed because of the key.
1948958
Oh... I don't suppose he could have bent the truth slightly?
1948972
It isn't possible. The key forces someone to tell the correct answer if you know how to use it.
Heh, the whole story had me laughing as I read through it.
Especially the part about the naga and the squid!
So...Nav's got a gun now? Is it like the guns that you can see in pirate movies? Muskets I believe they are called? Holds only 1 shot, and needs to be refilled with black powder everytime? Not very effective to be used all the time, but should act as a nasty surprise if something should manage to get close to him, and he finds himself weaponless.
Btw, please tell me if I am wrong, but none of the races have cannons, right? Will it be likely that Nav may make plans to outfit the flying ship with some? If he can get any blacksmiths to make them for him, and he can keep it as secret as possible, ofc.
Now, to the war games.
Bloody brilliant. Gotta say that the ponies were unprepared for guerrilla warfare. It was a pleasure to read how badass Nav handled himself aswell. I guess the practice with the naga is paying off, he?
In the end, I just want to say, I got a smile as soon as I saw that this story had updated again, and an even bigger one when I saw that it was over 20k words! Great read as always. Keep up the good work.
1948980
You really like making things overpowered, don't you? Anyway, sexy chapter as always.
1948991
How is that overpowered? Any unicorn could do the same thing if they knew the right spells.
1948990
Pinkie has a party cannon, but I don't think any of them use cannons for wars. He would probably use a bellcaster to make a cannon, since they have the same basic shape and that wouldn't raise as many suspicions. I don't think I'll do that, just because he wouldn't want to shell out the cash needed to keep one of those things working. It might bankrupt even him. And if something goes wrong and one of his homemade shells blows up in his ship? Oh man. Also, yes, the pistol is basically what you would see in a pirate movie. It's only good for a last-ditch one-shot effort at staying alive.
1949011
Well, from what I can tell, you can take the key 'unlocking' things in many different perspectives. It's your story though, and I love it just as it is, so it's cool.
1949011 Hm, you are right, I guess, when it comes to making a cannon. But! Idea!!
Why not just circumvent the cannon completely, and just make the cannon balls, and just have the unicorns throw them with magic? They should still be as devastating, and cost less in magic than for example casting a fireball or such, since it is just simple levitation?
One typo i spotted: They didn’t hesitant
When nav said: I could, however, get my chariot down low enough that I could jump out. “PEGASI, TAKE US LOW!”
I really expected him to follow up with something along the lines of "drive me closer, i wanna hit them with my sword"
Good chapter.
1949067
If he was going to do that, he would just give them giant spears. They fly faster, straighter, and go straight through something. No reason to risk having giant balls of metal rolling around on deck and possibly breaking someone's leg. Especially not if they're going to be flying in the air possibly above cities. Something like that hits a building, it does serious damage. A spear does it, you might have to fix a leak.
Or if you mean the exploding cannon balls, that still runs the risk of having explosive shit on his ship. And why use those when he could just make something cheaper and less heavy?
1949073
Fixed that one.
I guess the blacksmith didn't really know how to groove the barrel correctly.
You said in our conversation before that Nav doesn't understand the mechanics behind firearms such as the percussion cap right?
1949139
He does not.
1949090 Cheaper and less heavy? Ah, you mean grenades, and maybe bombs? True true, but I was thinking about using the cannonballs from a distance, and yeah, spears do go faster and such, but cannonballs have more an area effect, as you also pointed out. I would assume they would have them secured down in a room that could be accessed from uptop, and just levitated out whenever needed.
1949149
You can use grenades from a distance. Put a long timer on one, pull the pin, and throw it. Cannonballs are heavy and it would take a lot of energy to throw one a long distance. If Nav was just trying to destroy something he would probably just tell a unicorn to destroy it. It may use more magic, but it would clear up room on a ship where space is limited and it would reduce risk of an accident like the cannonballs cooking off or something. I mean, he has at least eight unicorns that are pretty good at magic.
1949149
If you are gonna use cannon balls, just use grape shot.
That was less change of mishap.
Of course Nav could use an air pump to shoot those grape shot instead of a cannon. It would be cheap.
A wooden cannon with a clay cannon ball would be even cheaper assuming you have the right type of wood.
1949163 Ah well, you have me convinced. To bad, I was imagining maybe an airship battle, with cannonballs soaring through the air, some hitting a ship, while others landed in the nearby area, causing loads of collateral damage. (Yes, I have watched all the Pirate movies that are out now, hehe)
1949178 Hm, would'nt grape shots be mostly useful against bodies, and not buildings/ships?
And I am unsure how Nav would make an air pump shotgun (or somesuch thing)
Just once, let Nav cave and just talk/fuck with Luna.
I almost feel sad for Luna.
1949394
Why would he do that? She treated him worse than trash. He wouldn't want his dick anywhere near her again.
1949400
Understandable. She brought this on herself, though.
1949452
This is true. But still, at least try to get some words between Nav and Luna. If he really is traveling in a year, the least they could do is talk.
By the way, replying to you on my Wii U.
a new chapter 10k+ right when I run out of stuff to read...are you santa
1949616
I'm the young, hillbilly Santa: http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m8/whatmustido/2012-12-3195131741_zps6d21341f.jpg
And Nav walked out on Luna like a boss. This was a damn good chapter.
Ever since Braeburn, I've had a suspicion that Navarone and Sunshine Smiles would end up sleeping together.
Then Nav hurt Smiles' feelings by dismissing him during the operation, and now...
... I just don't know anymore...
1950418
The story ain't over.
1950438
You just made me a happy camper....Also good work with Luna at the end about time she gets the message that nav is mad at her.
Actually.... why didn't she understand that in the first place?
1950505
She did. She was just hoping he'd get over it.
1950518
Really.....Get over having a horn shoved/stabbed into his chest and then being used like a toy..........Wow
What a bitch.
1950537
She's still set in her ways. Those ways mean a princess usually gets what she wants eventually. She may have spent a thousand years on the moon being reminded that it wasn't exactly the case, but meh.
She's also a woman, so there's that.
Drunken escapades and lusty mares. Good times for all.
War...war never changes. Even with pastel talking magic tiny horses.
1951153
No. She actually never wanted to do so. She didn't realize until it was too late what she was actually doing to him.
1951244
Who wouldn't be after being alive for over six thousand years and without any real friends for over a thousand? She understandably has issues identifying with other ponies, more so with something that isn't a pony at all. She assumed humans were able to go through more than ponies and come out unscathed mentally.
1950652
That is way you must pair Smiles or Brea with Nav.
1952820
I can definitely confirm that we'll be seeing more of Braeburn. We'll probably see more of Smiles. What Nav will do with them, though, is anyone's guess.
This was good.
Love the story, i've been here for a bit on this sight, and so far this is tied for my favorite story. I must say, it is one of the best works i have seen. Keep up the good writing, and dont expect much bother from me other than saying good job.
Also, i cant tell you how many times i have had to stop reading just to laugh because my mind is just that way, and that is not saying anything wrong if one may wonder.
awesome new chapter, but I didn´t quite get what Fancypants said about his wife, and what was that with rarity?
