Hence why Shining was trying to work to get them back to modern fighting standards. I choose to believe that maybe crossbows didn't exist 1,000 years ago when the Empire disappeared combined with Alicorns naturally being able to learn faster than the average pony, maybe it makes sense as a headcanon.

I’m afraid the punchline really didn’t work for me.
In the final section, Cadance comes back and plays the role of a ridiculous, larger-than-life caricature of an asshole party pooper. That role feels out of character for her, like it was forced on her for the purpose of artificially creating conflict; to add insult to injury, that conflict is then not resolved. It puts a huge downer on an otherwise adorable story.
Well, at least Flurry got her cookies, that was kind of a resolution I guess. :)
