Graymane Shadow

“It’s terribly dangerous for an artist to fulfill other peoples’ expectations. They produce their worst work when they do that.” - David Bowie

This story is a sequel to The Manehattan Sanction

Starlight Glimmer is one of the most trusted members of the Special Branch of the Equestrian Intelligence Service. When the job must be done, she is the one they send.

Sometimes, those missions are filled with action and danger, romance and violence.

Other times, they involve freezing your flanks on a park bench, waiting to see if a promised defector shows up bearing the state secrets Equestria would very much like to get their hooves on...

I was about to ping you on Discord and say "he wouldn't know her name!"

Good stuff. Short, sharp, and effective. Looking forward to more.

Dang. I didn't even catch it. I'd make a bad operative

Good stuff. Really fun to get another glimpse into this world.

still the best twist even a decade later

It's kind of like the cold war
Don't you think?

I liked this one better than the first. It would be fun to see this series continue, perhaps with a longer adventure next time.

Solid spy stuff, this story!

Good stuff, but it feels more like a thin veneer of pony over the existing story. Sniper rifles that are more elaborate artillery pieces are one thing, but casual use of handguns and cars without adjustment makes for an awkward fit with the Crystal Empire. The AU tag can only do so much to work around the fact that these are hooved quadrupeds.

Yeah, I have some weird standards when it comes to this sort of thing. :twilightsheepish: Still a gripping read. Thank you for it.

Oh, have I been waiting for this...!!

Hm a KNOWN spy is worth a LOT more than a message...

The Changeling Empire wouldn’t risk sending someone who knew anything of real value, just in case that happened. There’s an argument to be made perhaps for feeding him false information, but that has its own risks.

The feeding of false information is EXACTLY the thing to do. You may get him in a blackmailable position [doubtful with a changeling] or simply get him in a position where you feed him strategically false information, give him low value real things, and manipulate properly what he gets to send back, keep him monitored and so you can get to know who else is a spy and so on, and given he has slipped up so blatantly he is NOT that bright so still more easy to keep in the dark.
