Both a villain succeeds and time travel that actually for the most part does what he wanted.

This might make an interesting AU, showing how things went differently because of Colgate's time travel.
I absolutely love this story! It is good to see Colgate and Lyra have a close sisters' relationship in the end and the best thing, hearts and hooves day doesn't exist! Now for her to wipe out the other overly commercialized holiday and we'd be all set!

If she did that to Hearth's Warming, Equestria would cease to exist. She'd just have to go back and wipe out the materialistic side of it, have it be centered more around family and a love of Equestria than presents.

I'm probably not the first to say this, but Colgate's actions may well have created a time paradox. She goes back in time to prevent the event that led to Hearts and Hooves and, in doing so, eliminates it in the present day. This means that she would have no reason to go back and eliminate it, producing a time paradox.
Or maybe I'm just overthinking things.

Having said that, creating a time feedback loop that eliminates time itself would have the same effect.
