Oh, Spike... God, now I just want to give that Dragon a hug. I'll take solace in the face that Poptart probably was cheating on Rarity, and probably will again, I know that sounds cruel, but to be honest the signs are all there and Rarity is failing to heed them. Damn, this was almost as bad as the last time you made Spike suffer.

Lol sounds like someone was listen to a Lil' Dicky song when they wrote this. This was such a nice little bittersweet story for sure. I will be a big sappy baby and wish that we can still see those two together in the end but that isn't how life works and not everything ends in a storybook ending. He put her needs and feelings first. That is all one can do, I do feel that even if you DO do that you don't have to neglect your own tho. But Spike handled it his way

Hey, look, Spike getting sappy over making a good decision and casting it exactly the wrong way for maximum self toxicity and bad attitude!

... Let me explain.

Allowing Rarity to fly to Spike over a hysteric misconception would have been awful... for Spike. It would have been a poisonous relation ship at least having the hurdle that it stsrted when she was in an emotional weak place, so at best they have to deal with that and she has to figure this stuff out and grow. At worst she will either continue to have issues, causing issues with Spike and her relationship, putting it in a poisonous state, or she could even realize their relationship came into being because he took advantage of her during a weak moment and it ends the relationship over it.

Conversely, seeing it as some kind of "oh woe is me I did this because I sacrificed so much" is just torturing himself for the reward of feeling like a martyr. Or, at worst, its Spike feeling like his choice to do the more honest and honorable thing that keeps both himself and her happy and guilt free as something he feels like is a noble sacrifice just for her happiness and that sort of attitude is awful.

Also this is a Big Oof for Spike. I really liked the conflict here, and how it was never clear exactly what was happening on anypony's end but Spike's. Poptart may not be cheating, and maybe he is. Poptart is bad at telling the truth and Rarity is dramatic. These didn't mix well. Spike is a good friend and voice of reason, but it comes at a cost.
