Dragons mature when they choose a mate. This usually starts with a gift of a gem like a RUBY and then later by abducting the chosen mate with brute force normally from her nest and then climbing to a lone mountain cave followed by a few mighty roars ... He said he does friends so does Spike have a harem now?....I didn't think you had many dragons in Ponycity, place, what ever.
P.S. Garble wants to see Spike and his pony friends too. (He's still kissing every random dragon...Who am I to stop him)

This is a sweet little story, but I admit I feel like there's a bit of clumsiness... But it's hard to nail down.
I definitely like the themes, though.
I want to like this one, I really do. As much as I'm a Sparity fan, I want to like this one.
Yet for some reason, I can't. Maybe it's Rarity's characterization that she not only knew, but in some ways encouraged it while it benefitted her, but then shut him down hard the moment it endangered her reputation. Or maybe it's the part where she shuts him down that Spike is "steely-eyed" yet that amounts to nothing. He says nothing, he does nothing, just sobs as she leaves. I can't see him giving up without at least saying his own peace.
Still, well-written and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing.
I know it had to be said, and I'm glad that there is a story based on this. Also, that this is a real plausible way to see this actually turn out.
But still, FUCK YOU RARITY. You knew this was gonna happen, and it is your fault you let it get this far. And honesty, if your reputation is so damn fragile that just a rumor is gonna give you significant damage, hell, I think you shouldn't even be an Element of Harmony (yes, I know those determined by fate, she didn't choose to become an Element). Not to mention, you should have nipped it in the bud the moment Spike went all Godzilla on Ponyville. Whoever Spike actually gets romantically, that creature probably is gonna turn out to be at least 10 times more lovely than Rarity ever did....not to mention, I bet there won't be the issue of 'others are talking about me because of him' because in my opinion (and yes my bit of bile at Rarity is prejudicing some of my opinions) Spike probably have more to give to Equestria than Rarity's budding fashion empire. He's an ambassador-his actions directly led to the alliances of two major kingdoms, the Changlings (King Thorax) and the Dragons (Dragon Lord Ember), not to mention he has direct contact to the Princesses, and the Crystal Empire treat him as their saviour/hero...If anything, you would think it would be the other way around, that Spike says to Rarity that SHE's damaging HIS reputation, instead of the other way around...
As well written as parts of it are, there are just things off about it that I don't really like.
