The plague reminds me a bit of the Black Death, just casually wiping out a third of the population, taking the poor and powerful alike.

6466022 Yeah, I know. I'm betting his 'reality' was a dream while in the cocoon. His delusions are likely visions of his past before being captured.
My guess is brain worms that are messing with ponies heads. Perhaps specialy designed changeling "infiltrators" that took control of the earth ponies and pegasi, and for whatever reason the horned ponies either werent affected or found a way to fight back, but the potential for treachery by non-horned ponies was too high so they left for some as-yet unknown reason, to try and come up with a way to magicaly purge the parasites from ponies brains.
Or i'm probably WAY off base.

A changeling winning fic?
Eeeeh. Not sure bout this one. Though that might partly be because that i recently encountered a changeling wins fic that had some promise ubt quickly got...... confusing.
And that is after a lot of them that just didn't work. Changelings are creatures whose powers are for deception and they tend to buckle when faced with expecting opponnents.
Oh my... this looks interesting. Yet another Kudzu story I'll have to favorite then. At this rate you are going to be owning half the stories on there: ajsmug:

...besides, a lot of people just don't write them correctly. Too many people have bought into the tropes most commonly associated with changelings. What good is your imagination if you let someone else tell you what it should be?

This story is a changeling that was still being conditioned to be loyal to a Changeling Queen.
Like removing a bee pupae before it fully matures from its honeycomb Twilight in her Metalgear War outfit (ala It's About Time episode)
Perhaps Chrysalis had succeeded in her bid to take Canterlot? If his dream conditioning pointed out the fall of the Alicorn Sisters and the death of Cadence perhaps Twilight leads the resistance? It would explain why Sideralis' Mother knew how they died but not why Twilight disappeared and why she was so sad that Cadence's love was lost from Equestria.
Also, fun fact: Sideralis is a type of Moth, Prorasea genus, part of the Crambidae family, or Grass Moths. They hide in plain sight by folding their wings vertically on stalks of grass. Not unlike changelings do in a crowd!

6466748 hwat i mean is their shapeshifting and abilities to dull the mind are more fit for a species who is reliant on secrecy. true chrysalis was stronger and could pose a more physcial threat compared ot the changeligns, but she was some kind of ruler. and in mlp the ability to dropkick dragons seems to be a requirment on the application.
guess it depends on what those abilities are. though as i said, its kinda a personal thing for me. i love the changelings are an idea and concept, just seems like every other story seems to completely forget the part where Chrysalis herself admits her overpowering celestia was a fluke.

Chrysalis was more into deception and trickery. Mariposa was more into parasites. But, but absorbing so much of Chrysalis' drones, Mariposa now has both. She commands disease, plagues, sickness, she makes weakness. She's forced Chrysalis to take on a new role and apply herself.

For environment, I sorta skipped over that on purpose. Sideralis can't see very well, and everything is seen from his perspective. In time, we'll be seeing more of what he sees.
And yes, we will see other Luna clones. Perhaps even successful ones.
