She's looking at you. Yes you. And she is judging you with her eyes. There is no escape.

They are not pirates. They are badass ponies who free slaves.

Robin Hood ponies of the sky? I like the idea, I hope they do not turn out to be lying. :scootangel:

either they are lying psychotic assholes, or they just have a bad reputation.........
if they are so infamous i would think that Celestia owuld ahve taken matters into her own hooves. and considering what she is......... yeah they would be dead in seconds.

Here it goes here it goes here it goes again... So now I see what you intended 'The Catch' to be, and I am now sure that the idea is a great one! An interesting set of developments so far, I can only wonder where it will take us! Detail and overall structure is superb as usual, character development is well under way, and I do very well think it can be carried out as you please! Great work!

Is this a reference to the book Catcher in the Rye or is that completely coincidental?

what, you think equestria would still be standing if celestia did not get in a scuffle now and again?

Yup, you've hooked me with another one.

Rye Mash

prisoners of the infamous sky pirates

Y'know, I can't help but think about this story.
Strange coincidence. Eh, my brain works in weird ways.

Wow

Love it

WHAT !? No "YARRR" and no rum !? I demand "YARRR"´s !!!!!

Also, i just watched the new CGI Movie Arcadia (the old anime series) and, although the history is a mess, with more holes that i can count, the action scenes, and the Arcadia itself, are amazing and, for some reason, Spyglass is permantly pictured in my mind as Cap. Harlock...

But i really looking forward some "YARRRR"´s....

...and more chapters....

OMC! This is going to be oh so very awesome! Imma explerd!

If it wasn't for bad luck, Rye Mash would have no luck at all.

Before i get started reading, this reminds me of something

Ah yes, that's it! Intentional or not, a nice little reference that caught my attention.

Good beginning... Spyglass reminds me of Robin Hood: steal the rich to help the poor

Pirates

Also.

“What is the catch?” Rye Mash asked.

Roll credits.

Laddie, they are not pirates. They are those who choose to stand against inequity and say no. They are the voice of the common Pony who wishes to stand against the unfairness of it. To be honest I'd be mighty surprised if there isn't an Apple on board. Why's that? Because what they seem to be doing is mighty honest, and the entire Apple clan was about honesty.

4749904

The Apple on board hasn't been introduced yet.

His name is Crab, the sky and seafaring Apple.

Rye Mash... Intelligence officer, Pirate of the Skies, and Ancestor to one Button Mash avid Video gamer.

Or so i'm guessing.

4749937

No. Not Button Mash.

Rye Mash is Berry Punch's ancestor. And not too distantly related.

Button Mash doesn't even exist in the Chase Verse.

4749979

Awwww... Too bad... Because I almost had a vision of bloody Velvet looking similar to Love Tap, with the exception of coloring and being a unicorn.

Oh well, fantastic read anyway :pinkiehappy:

4750010

Bloody Velvet is Twilight Sparkle's however many great grandmother.

4750027

That makes far too much sense. It really does. Quick question... When did Celestia in the Chase/Catch Universe start her school for gifted Unicorns?

I can't see bloody Velvet not being in that school. I would think that Celestia would want to help her with the obvious bouts of neurosis, panic, and emotional repression that she's most likely faced or still has.

Unless of course her family didn't want her to attend said school.

Oh well. Still I look forward to reading more.

LF

4750100

Oh, she was in Celestia's school. Graduated. Got the shivers.

OMC! If Berry Punch and Twilight are related I will explode!

There was hammock

There was a hammock

Equestrians bits

don't need that S on Equestrian

Okay, This has progressed rather quickly.... Not that that is bad, But I would like to have a little more detail on Rye's background (Although, from The Chase, I know that will probably forthcoming when it is more relevant.).

4750982

Yes. In time, more will be revealed.

4749979 No Button Mash. But Button's Mom will be there, won't she. Maybe she can be the earth pony in Rising's herd.:fluttercry:

4751049

No. And she would be old enough to be Rising Star's mother.

4751106 That didn't stop Thistle. Or you could at least add a Steven Seagal pony as one of the crew members.

Fantastic story as always. This and The Chase are swift becoming my favorite stories

I just got here from The Chase and Spyglass calling Velvet his first mate seemed normal Chase-verse-y to me until I rememberd that they used pirate ship titles and those two weren't actually a bonded pair. Thanks for ruining my mind, Kudu.

Just noticed the "Alternate Universe" tag on this story... Could this be a hint at something AMAZING? Probably not. I'm pretty sure it's just referring to how this is a different reality where minor things are tweaked, making it a different universe in small aspects...

I'm also pretty sure I'm overthinking this.

Ok, so we've got Bloody Velvet, (presumed) descendent of Clover the Clever and ancestor of Twilight Sparkle. Unless Lyra's the descendent of Clover, and Twilight is descended from Star Swirl.

Crab Apple, the chef. I guess his ancestry's irrelevant?

Bon Bon and maybe Pinkie are descendents of Chancellor Puddinghead? being superproducers and whatnot.
Derpy -- and maybe Spyglass? -- are descendents of Hurricane and Pansy.
Rye Mash is descended from Smart Cookie, and is Berry Punch's ancestor.
And, of course, Bucky is descended from House Avarice, who are descended from Platinum and Sombra.

So we're missing, at least, a Smart Cookie, Puddinghead, Clover, and Avarice Descendant on the ship. Or, if you're going with the Mane 6 aspect rather than the Founders aspect, a Pinkie Pie, a Rarity, and a Fluttershy.

:derpytongue2: Please continue if you will. :facehoof: Right now that i've gotten that out of the way, and have caught up on both stories, I'll have to say that they are exceedingly enjoyable. I'd like to start and say that you should write whichever story gives YOU the most enjoyment. I love the Chase, but to me the Catch is a side story to help explain the back plot of the Shetland Isles. I'm not saying to stop the Catch, it is just that I am not yet as enthusiastic about it as I am about the Chase.:twilightsheepish: Posting this as you asked for audiance views of the situation

My major annoyance with this, and the chase, is that I can't click thumbs up once a chapter.
:-)

I think I may have missed it, But what exactly are the Shakes?

4759250

The shivers are a neurological condition certain unicorns have. It is present in The Chase, but isn't a problem any more because of medication. So it is relatively unknown. But this is two hundred years earlier. Cerise is a type three with a neurological condition.

You are going to see a number of unicorns with this problem.

Bloody Velvet is best unicorn.

*is tempted to harass bloody velvet anyway*

*likes females that are dangerous*

I kinda like that she has shakes ... you're describing that really well, I have a brain disease that makes me have movements like that and no one ever really describes things like that well. It's a nice change.

Let's see... Is Cerise's Shakes the same thing that Twilight had in Lesson Zero? I've been wondering that since chapter one.

I kept reading Skeeter's voice in Oliver Wood's voice for some reason too... But I don't know if I'm right because Skeeter's age wasn't really mentioned much.

4760878

Sort of, but much much worse.

Wait a sec... Bloody Velvet is Spyglass' mate, isn't it? Or am I missing an eye?

4760947

First mate and second in command.

NOT a romantic relationship.

4760912 Cool. Those two things just seem similar to me, and since Twilight has a lot of magic and could overload easily.

4760973

It is addressed in The Chase to a great extent. The severe neurosis of the unicorns. Have you read The Chase?

4760958

Oh, ok. Not this kind of mate. My apologies :twilightsheepish:

4760979 Yes, I've been keeping up with The Chase but didn't link it to the neurosis as that was never explained as more than an unfortunate mental occurrence, for some reason the possibility of it affecting the unicorns physically slipped my mind!

4761075

Bucky has also displayed some of the same symptoms but he doesn't have the shivers.

If Cerise could find the sort of calm and tranquillity she needed in her life, much of the symptoms would go away, but not all. I feel okay telling you this because this will never be explicitly made clear in the story.
