I like where this is going. Gadget's an interesting addition, and certainly one I can see being either helpful or a hindrance to Twilight in a lot of different ways. Glad you're keeping the pace up, and looking forward to more. Keep up the great work!
God...author you are such chauvinist hick. And people question why the world hates idiots with similiar mindset.
6998492
I'm the kind of writer where I have to actively focus on the task of writing, and if I stop, there's a chance that it could be a very long time before I work up the motivation to get back to it. So don't worry, I'll be trying my best to keep up this pace!
Hmm... so we finally find out exactly who Gadget is. Can't wait to see where this is going, since it seems in the 'present' Twilight apparently cares for her enough to break down at the mention of her name.
6998500
God Tulip, you are such a troll. That or you're genuinely that judgmental about someone's personal mindset based on their creative works, in which case I have to feel sorry for your extremely narrow mind and incompetence.
6998503 That's really good to hear! That aside, I think you misunderstood me a little. By 'pace', I meant that I was happy with the rate at which the story's plot is advancing. Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear you're working to keep to a good update speed as well. I'm certainly happy with how often you update, so no need to worry there; just keep on doing what you're doing.
Maybe Trouble Shoes used to live there?
6998543
That wouldn't shock me in the least. Or maybe his parents were from Stalliongrad?
Dark Delight, eh? Catchy, more or less self explanatory, easy to remember.... i like it!
XCOM, eh? You trying the long war mod?
6998632
I haven't even heard of that. Hold on.
*looks it up* ........
Great, thanks! Now the next chapter's not gonna be out until next month. >=|||||||
6998644
Lol, only one month? Good luck with easy mode non-ironman then!
Long War makes vanilla look like a kiddy pool. You get magnitudes more powerful squads, but the aliens scale into the same disgusting levels of power you do. Beating a long war ironman campaign is so satisfying, though.
You know a mod is awesome when you see its influence all over XCOM 2. Also, you get Van Doorne as a soldier, complete with voice (did I mention the mod adds original voice acting for many soldiers?), how cool is that?
6998796
Yyyeah, I'll never play Ironman Mode myself, not even in the normal game, mostly because while I enjoy a challenge I do NOT enjoy frustration in my videogames. I've been watching the Super Best Friends play Hard difficulty Ironman Mode on XCOM 2, and it has devolved into absolute hilarity already because they're at the point where they actually can't afford any new soldiers, and they keep having to pass on missions because they have no soldiers left to fight with. They have one engineer, one scientist, and the Avatar Project is on the verge of completion.
It. Is. Hilarious to watch. You should check it out. Free adverts right here, go check out a channel called The Sw1tcher on YouTube. I love watching them. Unlike people like say, Markiplier or jacksepticeye, when I sit down and watch their videos, I don't feel like I'm watching a Let's Play of a game. I feel like I'm sitting down with a group of friends and just having a good time.
Also, their FFX playthrough. Grand Wizard Wakka. That is all.
Great chapter. I really wanted her to get more into her illegal business, but I suppose there's not harm in building it up over more than a few chapters.
Dude, XCOM 2 is amazing! I can just barely play it with my computer, in fact, I should be able to play on higher settings, but it's really not optimized performance-wise yet, but once it is and we get a few better long war-ish balance mods, I'm probably gonna sink more time into it than I did with long war (and that's ~450 hours).
edit: check out beaglerush for all your xcom needs btw. "beagsandjam" on twitch.
6999065
We get our first taste of actual illegal business in the next chapter. You know, aside from her blatant murder a few chapters ago.
I COULD run XCOM 2, but my computer would melt into slag if I tried because, like a super-smart guy, I bought a gaming laptop! Those are notorious for their overheating problems. It regularly crashes from overheating if I play the first XCOM for too long. First as in, Enemy Unknown/Within, not uh...not the ORIGINAL original.
6999088
If it makes you feel better, Long War is, even with XCOM 2 out, absolutely not something to miss. If you don't recoil in horror at that sort of gameplay, it's so much fun having these supersoldiers, and then facing a challenge so great you actually need them to be so powerful.
I can understand not wanting Ironman. I'm doing ironman legendary, but victory is often a matter of abusing the game as much as you can: Letting the avatar project reach the final bar and sitting on your ass for the month of grace time you get rather than immediately raiding a facility is a major lifesaver strategically, while tactically I've long learned to maximize cover destruction, focus on bringing right kinds of firepower, and knowing which targets need priority.
I have a great ironman horror story. I was a turn away from extraction with VIP, but was cutting it close; poor placement and a lucky enemy meant I had to ignore some sectoids and run for it to be close enough to the rooftop extraction for my daring escape. No worries though; I could afford leaving behind a panicked soldier or two, and the VIP was out of LoS. A sectoid does panic my Ranger. Darn, but whatever. The other Sectoid, though, runs across the roof. My panicking Ranger chooses now to shoot. He misses, but apparent his gun is powerful enough to dent the floor of my extraction zone. Bradford decides a wobbly floor is too dangerous and moves the extraction across the map. Result: Mission failure, no reward, lose the country, and my entire team is captured with all gear. I'm down to squaddies and rookies, and lost my specialized equipment to boot.
6999275
Ooo...thaaat sounds brutal and undesirable. That's the sort of thing that makes me quit playing a game for a LONG time. Which is why I'm a no-Ironman kind of guy.
Yay typos!
6999565
Don't you love 'em?! I know I do~!
6999580 Wow that was freaking quick ( it's 1.30 am here so... ). But yeah !
A typo a day keeps the haters away
6999602
Hmm...something about what you just said there doesn't sound right....
6999620 Yeah had to rework the sentence since typos aren't supposed to be something to brag about (and I don't know what typo can keep away) . Also I need to sleep.
*prays to the kami-Author* Please let Gadget be worth it! Please let Gadget be worth it! Please let Gadget be worth it!
6999863
I know, right? I really hope she turns out to be a good character. She seems awesome!
Gadget is awesome. Gadget is sexy. Gadget is doomed.
7000617
Too sexy to live, too sexy to die.
7000708 Just sexy enough for eternal torture.
6999880
Oh, you~
7000717
O-Oh.
7000772 Halfway between life and death, after all.
7000771
Oh me~
You play long war? It's pretty cool but more difficult. It also rewards risks more as XCOM:EU/EW tends to give slower, cautious players a huge advantage while not really rewarding risk takers.
OT: How the story develops from here is anyone's guess. I will enjoy seeing how you manage to shape Twilight while still keeping her somewhat recognizable.
Edit: I find a laptop fan or playing near an AC helps with overheating issues. AC tends to work better if you don't mind freezing your fingers off.
7001218
Twilight is a delicate balance between ruthless, trained killer and the softness she's kept within herself that gives her those moments of hero complex she seems to have. Case in point, those two children of Charlatan Muse's, and her thoughts about Rough Edge being in the wrong line of work for someone so nice. It's going to be difficult to keep it going, especially since I know exactly where this story's headed, but it's when you give up on the difficult stuff that your story goes from being good or great, to being just mediocre or bad.
As for the long war mod, I think I'm gonna be smart and steer clear of it, at least until I have more free time. Seriously, if I got heavily involved with that thing, you might not see the chapter until next month or beyond.
7001747 Question, whens the last time you had your laptop cleaned? If you're not comfortable/don't know how to do it yourself most PC repair shops will do it for fairly cheap(guy in town here charges 20 bucks, most i ever paid was 50 and I'm pretty sure I got ripped off) and it can make a huge difference for overheating problems. No matter how good your cooling is over the years you'll get a dust built up Inside the rig and it can significantly increase the heat buildup.
6998807 There was an interview some time back with the author of Twilight Sparkle: Night Shift. He mentioned some stuff about his characterization of Twilight in the fic. I'll edit my post with a link when I find it. It might be helpful if interesting to read.

ITCS: We talk about good old XCOM.
Good stuff man. Keep 'em coming and don't slow down any more than you need to.
7003856
I suppose that makes sense. In that way, it has been a bit over-the-top, but it's funny you should mention toning it down. I've been intending to do that. Actually, a significant portion of this story involves chapters of a more laid-back nature. Things have just been hectic as of late because, well...you've already seen why.
I have several things planned, including a chapter that's all about Spike's birthday! It will be adorable. Almost as adorable as Spike is in this fic.
As for getting my laptop cleaned, I don't actually think that would help much. It had SERIOUS overheating issues right out of the box, and several forums I looked into online said this model in general has this problem.
Pen is envy?
I know how you feel. I got XCOM 2 for the PC and my computer goes snail pace trying to play it. Luckily in august there will be a release of XCOM 2 for the consoles. It's too bad I already wasted sixty dollars though.
When I "watched" Gadget fight, this is what came to mind:
I was reading through this... starting to skim a little because it's really late and I wanted to finish this chapter before I headed off to bed, but then I got to the fight... and i thought... Wait... Gadget?... I'm pretty sure I know that mare from somewhere!
It's freaking weird having a moment like that! Finding someone writing a story including a character you've actually encountered before! XD

In case you still have this laptop, you might check into replacing the thermal paste with a good one such as the Noctua NH-1.
Either way, this chapter prompted me to give you the thumbs up! It's certainly been a rollercoaster of a tale that's been an interesting balance to even keep the trolls hooked.

Well, I don't use it for gaming anymore, so that issue's moot. On the bright side, I appear to have fixed the constant crashing problem by going with a Scorched Earth policy and wiping the entire hard drive and re-installing Windows.
