Fandom pet peeve #7: Not everything has to have an incest ship

christ

2751977 Shut up it totally does

As for the story, boners all around.

2751977
But shipping things based on nothing is what fandoms do.

2751995

NO YOU SHUT UP

I'm just kidding. But I personally didn't like the story. Mostly because of my bias towards "EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER HAS SEX WITH THEIR FAMILY" tropes, but, whatever.

And the three week countdown begins.

You do realise that this means war?

I was disappointed in the lack of intercourse. Still good stuff, though.

Also fack u, I was gonna use that pic as cover art myself eventually.

As a contrast to what some of the critics are saying, I quite liked this story. Then again, anthro pony plus Applejack plus Apple Bloom equals wincest.

Here's to you winning the competition!

2752134 I was torn between the one I used and another picture by the same artist

2752085 I'm all for some competition!

2752126 I was debating on whether or not to include intercourse. I'll probably do a "sequel" or something eventually.

I gave you that picture :pinkiesmile::pinkiesmile::pinkiesmile:

2752743 That's true, thanks!

2752763I'm glad it worked for your story! I shall fave this, and read it later:heart:

Weird thing is im used to hearing things like this, 'caus i am from mississippi where this kind of stuf is legal EEYUP:eeyup:

I'm likely the odd man out, but I find this fanfic exceedingly dull. I don't mind clofics or incest, mostly because the regular stuff doesn't do it for me anymore, but that's not the reason I hold this in such low regard. My reasoning comes two fold. The first is that the reveal that the Apple family actively practices incest carries no literary weight.

I'm going to go on a slight tangent to make this point. When writing characters, common advice is to make a character that can be believable in either a male or female role. The act of gender should bare no difference, as that would be going into sexist territory. The biggest problem with writing women in fiction, is writing women in fiction. Men are often the default characters, and whenever women are in a story, they are often written as females, not as people. Big difference.

It takes a lot of effort to get the subtle nuances right, but when they do, the characters shine. The trick is to give their story progression a clean path through the story.

Returning to my point, that clear path is not present. What you have here is not an incest story, but a story that just happens to have incest. The mental and emotional aspects of the act that one would typically expect are not present, and those that are here are overcome too easily and are hardly the source of any tension. In less than two thousand words, Applebloom, whom is supposed to be the reader surrogate in the situation, agrees to commit incest. That is far too fast, so the actual act itself comes off as rushed and improperly built up.

The second is that once it starts, it degrades into senseless spank material. Everyone needs to give the bald man a backrub, but this was set up as a kind of lesson for Applejack. This isn't teaching her how to please a man (Which is very confusing because stallion is mentioned at least 20 times and mares almost equally as much), this is wanton masturbation material. The incest that it was built upon no longer matters. These three could be literally anyone else, and nothing would change.

2758776 If I wanted to write a story that was driven by its narrative, I would have. Yes, my main focus with this was to make more erotic than meaningful. I was never aiming for this to be The Color Purple or something.

2758825
There's a difference between it being five stars, and it making sense. The incest hook no longer matters once the sex starts, characters don't treat each other as family relations, and despite this being an anthro fic, it's missing the human tag and constantly refers to the characters as mares, stallions, and ponies.

It's not about being good, it's about making sense.

2758835 It doesn't contain the human tag because they aren't humans, they're anthro. Anthro and humanized are two very different things.

2758876
Anthropomorphism is ascribing human forms to animals or other forces of nature. I'm fully aware of the term, but I'm going by webster's definition, not the fandom's. Human form, not pony. I can see people rationalizing that into a null issue, so I don't press it beyond this. However, that does not exempt my other points.

SO THIS IS WHAT ALL THE FUSS IN "Anthropomorphics" WAS ABOUT!

Good job, I must say.

2752126

I'm not that disappointed, But still.

2760543 The "fuss" being my search for the cover photo?

2760623

Well... Yeah, though technically it just a bit of a search for a photo...

He told me it was a fuss!
*points at cactus*

2758835 The fact of the matter is that it does make sense, you're just stuck too far up your own ass to see it. There's this thing called colloquialism, and while I don't very much care to give a word-for-word definition, it essentially breaks down to nobody caring what Merriam-Webster has to say, so long as we understand each other, which we do.

2769489
Despite your response, you had not provided any evidence to refute my claims and debased yourself with petty insults. If you want to debate, I will, but actually back up your words with something tangible. The fact of the matter? What fact?

However, even if you do, I don't care enough to change my opinion on superficial words. I had dropped the issue, and your immature discontent and thoughtless typing brought back an issue that had already been solved. Notice I did not respond further? That meant that neither of us had anything left to say.

I don't know why you are so concerned by what I think. I neither insulted the author nor resulted to petty name calling, and excused myself when my issues were properly resolved. If you cannot handle the concept that ideas are not universally appreciated by all, you have clearly never heard of a dissenting opinion.

I was content to leave both of our opinions as is. At least the author has the grace to know when an issue is solved, unlike you. If you are concerned that my opinion is so crucial to a story's integrity, I am flattered, but here is something you can do. Keep this advice in mind.

I have the right to an opinion. You have the right to ignore it.

Now sit down and read you clop.

2769511 I don't think that this story has any integrity, and neither does Scouse. He and I agree, it's shameless porn.

Second of all, I called you no names.

2774293

Second of all, I called you no names.

Really?

...you're just stuck too far up your own ass to see it.

Surely it is a complement.

Unless a fanfic is deliberately written awful, like trollfics, or possibly where the intent of the author is ambiguous, like My Immortal, I can reasonably expect a level quality in what I read. When our subjective(<-- That's the important part) expectations are not met, we leave reviews outlining our opinions, unless people decide to be an asshole about it. Despite being shameless, I personally still expect it to be good. When I screw up on my stories, my fans let me know. I, in turn, let other authors know in the fanfics I read. It's a cycle.

I've used up enough time on semantics. I'm done here. If you like it, keep reading. I don't care one way or the other.

this was good, but i would have liked seeing actual sex. this was kind of a tease

I'd love to see another chapter added to this. :)

2779453 I originally wanted to, but the contest only allows for one chapter. After the contest, I might add another chapter to it.

2779456
Awesome. Can't wait. I really like the way you described things so I'm looking forward to it.

2774344 That is not a name. Sure, it's not a compliment, but not a name either. Unless a word defined as "stuck up their own ass" rather than "one stuck up their own ass" should be a noun, in your opinion.

I've only got one very important question...... will there be a sequel to this?:ajsmug:

3175836 Possibly. I haven't worked on any pony fics in awhile because I got a bit tired of writing them. Recently, I've been feeling like writing another one and I like Applecest, so it's a good possibility!

I sense this is gonna escalate pretty damn fast.

3230086 It might. IT MIGHT.

3175836>>2777987>>2779453 There's actual sex now.

Those description are pretty hot. nice job. I think i'll love the next chapter.

3234899 Awesome, glad you enjoyed it!

OOOOOOOOHHH this is going to be fun!!!!:ajsmug::applecry::heart:

3353998 It most certainly will! However, I haven't even thought about starting on the new chapter since I wanted to take a break from writing clop. I will definitely update this though, don't worry!

3461975 I will try to update as soon as I can. Recently, I've been extremely unmotivated when it comes to updating this story. Not only that, but I also did a complete 180 on how I wanted it to turn out. I am not giving up on this story though, don't think that at all! An update will come after I finish a few other things!

3462292:pinkiehappy: i can help with motivation :raritywink:
