It is the year of 1975. Melody, a young human girl, always wanted to better understand the night sky and the secrets it held. Studying in order to become an astrologist, she travels the globe to observe the different constellations and views of the people who live under them. On the night of a meteor shower in Cairo, Egypt, she wishes upon a shooting star, asking to be led to a place of great night skies no human has ever seen. However, as the saying goes; "Be careful what you wish for."
Melody awakens the next morning to find herself as an alicorn filly with no memory of who she is or once was in Canterlot nearly 40 years before the time of Twilight and her friends. She is discovered by Princess Celestia and taken under her wings. Will Melody ever regain her memories, or is she doomed to be forever in the dark?

I'm quickly finding that I don't like Equestria.

On the surface it seems like a pretty cool place. Most ponies are friendly even if you're unfriendly to them. It also helps that they haven't been at war since any of them can remember. Thing is once you've lived here a while, you quickly realize this place makes no sense! And even if there are no wars there's still plenty of danger to go around.

No thank you. I'll just stay inside!

Though his defeat at the hands of Twilight and her friends dealt him a powerful blow, it was far from enough to see him permanently undone. Now the Crystal King has returned from licking his wounds with a man as terrible as himself called Anonymous at his side, a sorcerer driven by bitter envy freshly released from his own banishment. And the pair have set their sights on the one thing that the princesses cherish above all: the sorceress Twilight Sparkle.

This story is a sequel to Rust In The Breeze

Coming back to Ponyville after 'dying' was quite a challenge on its own. Things did not go as planned as Ryan made some interesting discoveries since returning that have curved his path. However, he does not intend to simply abandon his former mission. He came back to make amends and right the wrongs of his past and he intends to do exactly that. Now though, with the added responsibility of raising a daughter he didn't know he had, as well as working out the issues that still lie between himself and her mother, this trial may end up being a lot more interesting than he initially thought.

This story picks up shortly after the ending of Rust in the Breeze, with Ryan now ready to face his challenges head on and no longer hiding from the rest of the world, as well as having accepted himself for who he truly is.

For numberless eons, Equus hosted primitive civilizations, ignorant of the proud achievements of their ancient race. In their simple lives, ponies and other creatures could grow without fear of alerting any of the terrible forces that grew in the galaxy beyond. All civilization had been extinguished by forces beyond comprehension. If they made too much noise, Equestria would be next.

Then came James Irwin, with the truth the Harmony superintelligence that maintained the vast Niven Ring had already known: the galaxy was safe again, and probably had been for many centuries.

Once the truth was revealed, Equestria again longed for the stars. Surely they could not be the only survivors of that galactic Red Tide that had swallowed all intelligent life. Their searching bore fruit: radio signals from a nearby system.

Felicity was the Alicorn chosen to captain that mission of discovery. She would bring the pony gift of friendship to a fellow survivor somewhere out there. That was the plan, anyway.

Unfortunately for Equestria, intelligence does not imply friendliness.

A tale of understanding and discovery set in the world of Message in a Bottle. Reading that story first is highly recommended.

This story was written as a Patreon commission for Lithl over the course of over two years now. It comes to fimfiction now that it is nearly finished.
