From the beginning, Spike was there, watching, listening...knowing things that he could tell no one.

He knew something bad had happened. He knew something was off about Sunset Shimmer. He knew something was hurting Twilight. But no matter how much he barked or howled, he could never explain what he knew to anyone--they would never understand him.

It didn't mean he wouldn't try.

He would give everything he had to protect his human.

A companion piece to my main story, Cross The Rubicon: Choices , from the perspective of Spike the dog.

Twilight, on her new wings, couldn't find her way around Cloudsdale. It may have left more of mark on her than she wants to admit.

Maybe she could use some help, but she's going to have to be honest first.

Another one of Pinkie's parties is winding down, and Dash sits alone in the corner. She feels another knot tightening in her chest, clenching harder by the second. She just can't seem to make it go away, not alone.

On a cold winter evening, I met her, her cheeks chapped from tears frozen from the cold.

We took up talking for a while, and as I listened, I could tell she was out of aces, bound for nowhere.

She had the look of someone running away, with nowhere to go. Fleeing, not advancing.

I had a bit of advice. I've got no clue whether she took it.

I just hope she remembers the gambler whenever she gets to a place she could call home.

Idol Hooves is the only changeling in the entire Equestrian Guard, and has been proudly serving for over a decade (while disguised). His enlistment buddy and friend, Shining Armor, the current Captain of the Guard, is finally taking the next step to officially becoming Princess Cadence' s personal guard, 24/7.

With most guards being reassigned to the wedding, Idol (by Luna's demand) is given the temporary assignment to be Princess Luna's personal gaurd due to a shortage in the Night Gaurds numbers.

Now, after another all-nighter looking for potential threats and with Idol's persistence, Luna finally agrees and turns in for the day. With Idol Hooves being the sole guard watching Luna's door, a promise was made that could ruin Eqauestria.

Princess Luna will get her well deserved rest, and nothing short of Princess Celestia herself will wake the deathly tired princess.

Zecora's potion allowed Twilight to briefly look into the ancient past, and now she wants more. When she asks for help in mass producing it, Zecora uses a similar potion to give her a glimpse into a possible future, where the costs of her endeavor may outweigh the rewards.

Twilight Sparkle regrets a lot of decisions. Not spending more time with her family. Wasting away in a library rather than being out making friends, among other things. But when she can she attempts to make right what she feels she has done wrong.

And an opportunity to do that has presented itself.

When her friends return from Manehatten having encountered a former enemy, Twilight sets off in search of somepony Great and Powerful, to do what she feels she should have done a long time ago.

Sometimes though, the damage done can't be repaired, mistakes aren't forgiven, and the opportunity passes by.

Takes place after Season 4.
