It had been around two months since King Sombra took over the Crystal Empire. Even with the best of efforts, the Elements of Harmony, Princess Cadence, Shining Armor and Spike were unable to stop the King of Dark Magic. Spike and Cadence's whereabouts are unknown and everypony else seems to be just a regular slave.

Save for one, who showed off bravery during the very first meeting between her and her future king. She was granted a position as a soldier in his army, where she was brainwashed to believe all that he believed. However, during the first mission to Hollow Shades, she made multiple mistakes and was pulled from the army and has become a Castle Slave.

A maid if you will.

Genre: Sad slice of life. But also ponies working on Earth! Essentially a Tragedy, though not quite a 'classical' Tragedy, so I forewent that tag.

History is a funny thing--so easily twisted to fit the one pony's opinion, and then that opinion can become widespread, now viewed as unchangeable fact.
The Crystal Empire is one prime example of that. It is very different from what everypony thinks to this day...

How did King Sombra take over the Crystal Empire? What were his motivations? How did the princesses defeat him?

This story is a prequel to The Trouble With Unicorns, and is part of the Unicornverse.

Set in the Pandemic Universe (which existed well before the very real pandemic and this is in no way shape or form related to that) and takes place after the original story, though that’s not required to read.

All dreams start somewhere. For most night ponies, they start in the dreamscape itself, but that's not always the case for all. Two months after the ETS Pandemic changed the world forever, a bright, optimistic dream starts, whether the ponies responsible for it realized it or not. While some choose to cling to the past, some choose to leave it behind. This is the story of one of those ponies, Silver Eclipse, crafter of dreamscapes and dreams. In the waking world he helped create a dream called Oasis, a place where dreams can come true. But all dreams start somewhere, and this is the story of where that dream started, and the very special pony without whom it would never have happened.

Halira's stories, What you are Meant to Be and Picking up the Pieces offer some expanded night pony lore which introduce and expand on some of the concepts in this story, but it's not necessary to read. The original story is also recommended if you'd love to learn more about this universe.

This story is a sequel to Tomb of Magic

After the recent events, of Cadance is pretty sure that she doesn't want to go another adventure for a while. Except that you don't have to leave your castle to have an adventure. Especially if said castle is haunted... among other things that really, really should have been mentioned beforehoof.

Oh, and on top of all that now she has to find a pair of magical eyes – whatever those could be – if she ever wants the Crystal Heart to work again. After all, she's only just in a big empty castle, with a very mean ghost, magic coffee, secret passages, while trying to keep everything under wraps. What could go wrong?
