I won't spoil the inciting incident that causes Twilight to begin to loose it, as this story is best experienced by going through the situation with Twilight as it happens, but I will say the author does a great job showing how madness slowly crept up onto Twilight. Plus, the author does a great jb adding a sense of foreboding to the entires as the story goes on, and once Twilight finally goes off the deep end, it's off THE DEEP END.

I'm guessing the human equivalent of "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" has already happened, becuause we see the reformed Diamond Tiara give Apple Bloom a pretty good scolding. From one bully to another, that was pretty powerful.

Plus, I quite like the symbolism at the beginning where they depict the old guard racing a younger rookie. Just an amazingly well-done story.

I always appreciate stories that can build strong relationships, and this is definitely one of them.

Why it's Awesome: the7Saviors is definitely one of the best authors of GrimDark I've seen on this site. The way he captures the grim and hopeless scenario that Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Twilight find themselves in is amazingly well done. We see all four of them start to hit rock bottom, and it's simply just a fight to survive for the four of them. However, the story never gets dull. All four Princesses have to deal with the loss of those close to them and the feelings that come with it, and all of their reactions are quite different. This story also really makes people think as well, as it's not revealed who the main antagonist is until the end, which leaves the reader wondering, who/what is it? This story finally finished the day I've recommended it, and I've been waiting to do so for a long time. Can't recommend this story enough.

Also, this story presents a great message about the interaction between Twilight and destiny as a concept.

What It's About: Mysterious dreams of swirls lead Twilight on a very illogical encounter with Psycho the Psychopath.

Why It's Awesome: One of the things I really have to give Psycho is the level of description he puts into his stories. He will describe every color, every sound and every damp, dark, hallway that you go through in order to paint a visual image for you. However these descriptive scenes are not monotone and bland as the author has a tendency to insert comedic bits and pieces in them which, for a story that is largely comedic in nature, is pretty clever in my eyes.

Example: In the second chapter the author describes the appearance of a prophetic pony named the Seer. Amidst an intimidating image he portrays of this large, scarred, stallion, the author inserts this line in reference to his cutie mark: „If Pinkie were here she would make punny remarks about it, and Twilight groaned internally at the thought.“ It made me stop reading and laugh to myself as it came at a perfect point.

Outside of the tongue in cheek aspects the comedy itself is based both on wordplay and puns as it is on slapstick quick paced humor. However, this story has more to offer beyond humor itself. It has a lot of mystery, mainly concerning Psycho and The World of Illogic ™ which gave him these powers. The mysteries behind The World of Illogic™ become a bit clearer as the story progresses, but it never truly reveals itself and every answer tows more questions behind it as well. After all, to fully understand this place one would have to visit it and that trip comes with an admission fee of your own sanity.

Speaking of the herald of Illogic himself, Psycho the Psychopath, is quite the bizarre character. He is capable of manipulating dreams and reality, as well as its boundaries, are almost meaningless to him. Even the fourth wall is not safe from him as at one point he even takes over the role of the author, just to give an extra dose of comedy and confusion to the reader.

“The stallion balanced himself back and forth as he looked at the two ponies in front of him,” Psycho narrated. “I’ve been just peachy, although I’ve only had plums lately,” he chuckled.

Psycho himself is much the world of Illogic he represents: you can't really pin him down and just when you think you have realized who he is he changes again. It is confusing, but also very fun as you never truly know what to expect from a character like him. Unlike Discord who causes chaos, Psycho has no intention of causing chaos as his powers are not derived from it. His powers do end up having chaotic results which is why he was seen as a dangerous creature and even locked away in a dungeon in the beginning of the story. He is not chaotic nor is he malicious, he is just illogical. Also, the author uses him sparingly within the story so his antics never get stale as the adventure goes on.

There are many other aspects that come into play with this story, such as the appearance of the dastardly duo of Red Crow and Black Cloud who seek to capture Psycho for the nefarious Le couvent du crépuscule and the hijinks they get into with the herald of Illogic. Of the main cast Twilight and Celestia are the most prominent (with other members appearing shortly and mostly as victims of Psycho’s pranks) and they are both done really well which I have to give a lot of respect to the author for doing so. Overall, if you are looking for a fun and enjoyable adventure and a taste of The World of Illogic™ I would suggest you give The True Psychopath a shot. The journey through it was very enjoyable to me and I hope you find it enjoyable as well.

Oh, And Also: Don't compare him to Discord. He does not fancy that.

Oh, And Also: Somehow, this story only has 600 views at the time of this rec. It's managed to accrue 49 thumbs ups and no thumbs downs in that time. Seriously, this story both needs and deserves more attention!

The setting he's created is breathtakingly unique, and his prose manages to convey just how incredible and organic and other the City is. The story being told is fascinating, and fed to the reader via nothing but descriptions, and yet it still manages to send shivers down one's spine. This fic is an exercise in how to write good prose, on top of being just a wonderful story.

Why it's Awesome: First of all, the fact this story is told via a heroic legend, rather than "seeing" it play out on its own, is a great way to worldbuild, without having any worldbuilding (if that makes sense). This story trusts its readers to read between the lines is the story and discern what really happened, to discern Discord's motivations, Celestia's reactions, essentially, what really happened. I don't want to spoil it here, as part of why I like this story is figuring it out on your own, but it's an amazing story told in an ingenious way.
Oh, And Also: Deserves A LOT more credit than it has.

If only the movies started her out like this.
