Twilight Sparkle has a lot of difficulty getting a good night's sleep. She has to keep it a secret from the ponies who care about her, because they might disown her. Worse, they might try to help...

WARNING: The first five or so chapters are, on reflection, properly grimdark. If this makes you run away like a puppy that just laid a brown egg on the new carpet, that's your prerogative entirely. Please don't tell me that I'm objectionable for having written it, though, because that's not very nice. Or accurate. At all.

The shiny new art is a commission by this lovely person, so do feel free to check her out for all your creepy-pony needs.

Twilight Sparkle has read tons of stories, but they have always been fictional. After she comes into possession of the manuscript for a story called "Departure," a simple search for the author quickly becomes a fight for survival. A dark presence engulfs Ponyville, much like what happens in the story. Ponies touched by this dark presence become Taken - murderous, shadow-veiled shells of their former selves. It is up to Twilight and her friends, along with the help of an original character, to utilize the power of light and fight off the Dark Presence.

This is a crossover between MLP: FiM and Alan Wake.

WARNING: This story may come off as confusing to the untrained reader, as the chapters tend to progress out of order. It's a technique very similar to what authors like William Faulkner used. If you do not understand something, your question will most likely be answered in a later chapter. If not, I will try my best to answer questions in the comments.

This is also my first real fan-fiction, so suggestions as to how I can improve are always welcome, but I would prefer thoughtful criticism as opposed to flaming or other...over-dramatic responses.

The last remaining memories fade away into darkness. Your mind is a mess and only a feeling of being hunted remains. You must escape.
Do you have what it takes to survive?
Twilight Sparkle finds herself in a dark castle, with no memory of her arrival there or anything else. Her only lead is a trail of red liquid on the floor, and no other way out. What she finds beyond it, though, will change her forever.
Based on the game Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Equestria is growing, and magical savant Twilight Sparkle is disgusted by the crime and corruption this change has brought. Her life is changed forever when she discovers the Death Note, a notebook with inexplicable and deadly powers. But when the two Princesses put their best pony on the case, a mysterious detective known only as L, a psychological game of cat and mouse erupts between the two.

Having lost the Overlord some time ago, the long-lived advisor imp, Gnarl, and the all of the other minions toil over their loss. This Overlord, was perhaps the best of all compared to the past ones. During this time though, they have found a spell in a tome that may re-unite them with their master. But smally printed in the dusty and aged book, a message states that the spell comes with mixed results. Will they bring back their master? Will they fail? Or, will they re-unite in a mysterious new land ripe for plundering?

This is a satirical comedy of regular stories of heroes against villains. This story, instead of regular ones, features the villain as the protagonist and the heroes as antagonists. If you enjoy a story in which the Mane 6 are finally shown as vunerable instead of invunerable whenever dangers appear, feel free to take a gander yonder.
