The legend of Starswirl the Bearded is a long one, full of myth and speculation. Twilight has long admired him for his accomplishments in the field of magic theory; others know him as a hero who saved Equestria more than once.

When Twilight and her friends decide to write a play honoring Starswirl's legacy, a disagreement between Twilight and Rainbow Dash over the historical details takes an unexpected twist in the form of an ancient evil seeking revenge on its old nemesis.

This story is a sequel to Winona The Immortal Dog

Owlowiscious spends a lot of time thinking and trying new things. Currently he's an assistant to an alicorn princess, something he's never tried before. Sometimes being an assistant to a neurotic purple princess with a penchant for persistent productivity though, can really prickle his primaries.

After the Friendship Games, Sunset feels it's time to return home.

Only when she gets there, Twilight's castle is nowhere to be found, Cadance just got her horn, and Princess Celestia is still calling the bacon-haired pony her prized student rather than a failed one. And just reliving her past isn't on the table thanks to a pair of wings Sunset seems to have sprouted upon her return to Equestria.

With Sunset being back before she's supposed to, will the world stay as harmonious and on track, or will everything go down in flames as Sunset has to deal with allegations that she's really a changeling in disguise, a nerdy stallion with blue hair that wants to be her coltfriend, a pretty pink princess in need of remedial magic lessons, and an annoying purple pre-teen pony that will absolutely not go to bed without first being read Starswirl's Complete Mystical Mysteries Compendium?

Nightmare moon believes Twilight is responsible for both of her defeats and has decided to take care of the root of the problem. With the last of her strength she enters Twilight's dreams to claim her revenge.

History is a vague thing. It is written by those who are left behind to tell the tale. Who can tell truth from fiction if any chance for a viable reference is far beyond reach?

What knowledge is altered? What is lost? What is hidden away?

And for what purpose?

Knowledge can be a powerful yet dangerous tool. Especially dangerous for those that rely on knowledge alone.

Takes inspiration from and making reference to: Its a Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door, by Jetfire, (Jetfire has given me permission to use material from DB), this is the tale of Equestria's near future, with Tolkein high fantasy, Eldritch Evils, and even elements of science fiction included.

Still (mostly) show canon. Until the attack on Celestia in the near future leads everyone in a direction they never saw coming.

Non stylized summary:
Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Shining Armor are all wiped out in a single, massive attack. Over the next few years, three of those four have found a way to contact the world again, only to discover a religion has sprung up around the way they died.
The main story takes place many years after the attack. The young ponies of the show (ie pound cake and pumpkin cake) are just reaching adulthood. Twilight has had to rule alone, and war has broken out as those who would have never dared to attack Celestia and Luna, smell weakness.
The mane six are fractured, the weapon that struck the capitol has left vast areas of the world uninhabitable, and the Elements of Harmony are attempting to communicate with the world, warning everyone that the most ancient threat the world has ever faced has returned. A threat so old, the Elements of Harmony were originally built to fight it.

There's a lot of unpleasant surprises that can be found in photo albums. A third pony in what you thought was a private moment, inexpertly applied bodypaint, or just evidence of that time that your mother dressed you up like a burrito.

Twilight Sparkle was expecting to come out of Family Night with a few fresh blushes on her cheeks. What she wasn't expecting was a mysterious pair of wings in her baby pictures.

Hopefully Celestia will have some answers.
