heh spike and the main character from Fahrenheit 451 have strikingly similar jobs: Spike kills the owner and retrieves the books, while Montag burns the book's (and the house) and has the owner arrested, to which they are later executed.

Having to kill defenseless ponies and crazies on a regular basis tends to kill the intimate part of him. Although, if he's really stressed, there's a type of relief that does the job, and which Sweetie is more than willing to provide
Spike knows those repressed feelings will come back to haunt him when eventually even he is deter surplus to the Equestrian society. I will say you do a sam good job at making me pissed at the protagonist, less pissed at Spike and more at Equestria

Major badass he is but you can't help but feel sorry for him. He has given up basically all the his honor the normal Spike is known for. I bet at the end of the day, he is just an expendable agent like Cross was. I assume Her Majesty sees him as nothing more than her go-to agent. Though being the only dragon in a pony's world does give him some uniqueness.

This keeps getting better and better. After all the action from the chapter, we get a good breather chapter. So a few new things I've come to realize. Spike is apparently a little bigger than the pudgy little whelp we've come to know. Is it just now you reveal this or did I miss something in the beginning of the story?
I love the detailed social commentary here, not-so-subtly masking a corrupt regime with banners hanging off every nook and cranny. Spike mentioned he used to actually CARE for Twilight, indicating that something happened before love and harmony was lost to a complete population of (seemingly) indifferent people. Fluttershy so far seems the only one to retain her caring personality but is there anything left of Twilight/Spike's past relationship? Nice nod to the cockatrice incident from the comics.
Also, finally Sweetie gets some love (well... almost). If you're gonna go further than that then I've no doubt you'll execute it masterfully, as always.
Something tells me Luna is in deep shit.....
