Someday, I'll stop writing silly comedy stories. However, today isn't "someday".

E

When Princess Twilight Sparkle suffered "one of those days" that pushed her to her breaking point, Spike worked to salvage the rest of her day. He was driven to ensure what the stressed Princess of Friendship still needed done would get done, perfectly.

However, once the bad luck that plagued Twilight started targeting Spike, his self-appointed mission threatened to push him to his own breaking point.

The idea for this story was requested by wonderkid125 and is the first of my two 5th-year anniversary stories of opening my account on this site. Man do time flies...

That was very sweet 💖😊👍🍬

Nice work.

That ending was wholesome

Spike sprinted down hallways and finally reached and dashed through a doorway leading to the kitchen. Uninvited smoke climbed from the oven. He immediately set the cupcake box, quill, bag of Twilight’s bits, and list on the kitchen table, then dashed to the oven and opened its door. Hard, dark-brown, half-burnt cookies lying on a pan greeted back with another poof of smoke into Spike’s face. Coughing from the smoke’s assault ensued.

Weird thought, but could Spike just chill inside a burning oven if he wanted to? Being a dragon and all...

I mean, dragons can swim in lava, and a quick search says its temperature can be anywhere from 700 to 1,200 degrees Celsius (AKA, 1,300 to 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit). Given that, I'd say an oven's well within the realm of possibility.

You're not the first to wonder that--I've seen the subject come up several times before over the years.

Canonically, MLP has never really said one way or another, but given that Spike can enjoy a swim in lava without issue, and lava being several times hotter than any conventional cooking oven can get, then he almost certainly can. Heck, he might even find the oven a little on the cold side still.

Just as warm and fuzzy as I expected from the prompt

I also liked that the others got involved. The show would make it easy to believe that none of them really appreciate Spike as a friend, so it's always nice to see stories get us closer to how it should be.

Congrats on your five year anniversary! Here's to five more :yay:

Well done, this was a sweet story.

Well, this is a topic I didn't expect to see here:rainbowlaugh: But I'd guess that Spike probably would be all right in a heated oven since lava would be much hotter than the inside of even an oven set on broil. The only way I can see otherwise is if something about the properties of lava somehow makes it much less burning to a dragon's scales than outright heat from an oven despite technically being hotter.

Thanks, and thanks for the idea! It's even something I had given thoughts about, and too often stories with a similar concept have the Mane 6 (especially Twilight) be unusually jerky with no real justifications, such as just being in a bad mood, but is just done to get Spike extra sympathy points and for the plot. As much as I like Spike and think he should have gotten at least a little better treatment in the show, stories that overdo "fixing" it too much IMO can make me roll my eyes.

I even wouldn't be surprised if this story would have done better likes wise if I had done the "Mane 6 be extra-mean to Spike for the plot" thing, but there are some types of stories I just won't write, even if it means willingly giving up even thousands of likes.

The only issue I could see there would be getting fresh air.

I agree.
A lovely story.

I'll start by quoting the last sentence in my own way: "This fanfic was written perfectly. Just the way I like it."
Now, let's bake some cookies for our favorite dragon. :moustache:

Glad to hear those words, and Spike definitely deserves some cookies.
