The Iguana Man

I am just a simple thinker, though some call me mad.

The National Dessert competition: one of the biggest events of the Equestrian culinary world and a mecca for both practitioners and enthusiasts of the sugary arts, drawing gourmets of all sorts not just for the chance to see some of the greatest chefs on the planet and their creations, but for the many vendors and stalls ready to satiate the appetites that will inevitably be excited.

In particular, this year, aspiring confectioner Twist and professional overeater Truffle Shuffle are in attendance, looking to enjoy their day and date together. After all, for a couple like that, could there be a more perfect or romantic setting?

Of course, little do they know the day will have far more in store for them than that: awkwardness, anxiety, a touch of soul-searching and no small amount of fear. However, on the other side, there may be something far greater than could ever have been hoped for. But even with her coltfriend's help, will the ever-timorous Twist be able to get there? She'll just have to see.

Oh, also, someone's trying to kill one of the contestants, but that's probably not relevant to anything.

This story is in continuity with the Iota Force series, taking place after the upcoming seventh story, but absolutely no knowledge of that or any other entry in the series should be necessary for this story.

An entry in the May Pairing Contest 2023... using a pairing that is absolutely rare enough to qualify and has been officially allowed by the group, despite being explicitly canon.

"Of course I was scared!” Truffle replied, looking at her shocked. “If anything had happened to you, I don't know what I'd...” He paused for a moment before shaking the idea off. “I suppose I'm just more used to it.”

Interesting. Why would he be more used to fear than a anxious pony like Twist? I wonder if that's going to be a plot point.

Funnily enough, her nerves didn't last too long after that.

Aww so sweet!

And of course hooray for Pony Vincent Price!

I wonder if this based on actual interactions with his fans?

I wonder what he'd make of Neighsay.

...Well, that's one of the worst reasons I've ever heard to kill someone, and I've heard a lot.

Congrats on somehow managing to write a story of this length with Twist as the protagonist. That lisp is NOT easy.

It's always nice to see Twist getting more love -- both within the fandom, and from other characters. :twistnerd:

Using italics to highlight Twist's lisped sibilants is such a brilliant idea, it makes her dialogue easy to read while still retaining the cuteness of her voice. :twistnerd:

Well, to be fair, I can't claim to have come up with it - can't recall off the top of my head where I saw it, but I'm pretty sure it was another story I read. Still, happy to hear it worked as intended.

It's probably just because he's a superhero. No, this isn't a spoiler. This is part of the premise of the series this is attached to.
