Soarin has a lot on his mind and his mind has a lot to tell him.
But it's better to ignore it.
Especially when he's just fine.

Real gut punch that makes you feel bad for the guy. Soarin definitely deserves more attention and I'd say this fic does him some well-deserved justice.
I know the feeling of having your self-worth heavily tired to ones skills and it's had to let go and accept that you won't reach those skills again. The worst are those parasite thoughts that keep popping inside your head at random moments.

Do you still live a quiet life? The fic is good. Poor Soarin'...
Hmmm... I wonder if Soarin' has some body dysmorphia issues... good story either way! It was great!
Greetings. Your reading has been completed and can be found below. I hope you enjoy.
Poor Soarin! C'mere bud, hug time while I tell you all that stuff you think about yourself is wrong!
He's
Feeling
Irrelevant,
Nastily
Existential.
The "For your body" does a great job of demonstrating how this sort of thing isn't at all rational or self-consistent. Yes, the body that those same intrusive thoughts just attacked him letting slip into flab. Terribly effective presentation of niggling doubts and the absolute worst way to deal with them. Well done; best of luck in the judging.
oof, great setup of the structure! sets the mood and really jumps right in with a knife-stab by the thought
relating to this part a bit too much
augh, really feeling that depression now
augh, that voice is so good at drilling into the negatives and the self-doubts and the self-hatreds and the what-could-go-wrongs
and oof. that did happen in that episode, didn't it? it does seem uncharacteristically not very cash money of these ponies that Rainbow Dash is supposed to look up to, and yeah, hard not to see it as a heartbreaking betrayal that is a lot heavier than what the episode portrays
it's interesting, because of all the characters, Rainbow Dash is the most "out of scope" in the setting of the show, somehow being the fastest flier around even as a filly! and with all her accomplishments, she should be casting a shadow on all the other Wonderbolts and not the other way around, and though the canon nods to that it still doesn't quite feel right. but this, this takes it seriously, and it's so great
and augh, this part was beautiful! bittersweet, indeed, what a perfect way to describe it
and ugh, i would love so much for this story to end with Soarin' having an answer to shut up the voices for good, but no, life is not that clean. the voices have to get the last word in the exchange.
and glad to see Soarin' able to tune it out, but augh, it's just tuning it out, isn't it? day by day, having to remember to apply the lesson every time. augh, poor Soarin'!
that self-doubt, that self-hatred, all of it felt so real and i just want to give Soarin' a hug and wave a unicorn horn to make all those awful and untrue thoughts go away. if your goal was to make me feel you did a really great job here, Otter!
