This story is a sequel to A Taste of Stardom

A new normal brings new problems. Chrysalis has a job - a good, well-paying job she actually enjoys - and one of the conditions for keeping that job is the mandatory yearly physical. Well, that should be no problem for the Queen of the Changelings... right?

(Reading 'Taste of Stardom' first is highly recommended.)

Oh dear, may I say that I am definitely enjoying this. I always like reading a good tale involving QC- and oh God I just realized those are my initials.

I'm liking the series. Keep up the good work!

Ooh there's a sequel. Loving it so far!

Interestingly, how would the health of the Chrysalis organism be determined if it were the only one of its kind?
Yes, even with two Queens available, it is impossible to fully establish the parameters of a normal healthy body. Is there any guarantee that the second sample is completely healthy?

this is the best, cant wait to see where it goes

11092623 Well, when it hits the gynecological section, somezebra's getting kicked to the moon.

Ooh, an anapaestic metre for the good doctor. Interesting choice. Rather works for him, I have to say - gives his dialogue a bit more of a casual, conversational feel. There are a few places where it feels a little off, but for the most part, it was pretty well done. Also, this may just be me, but it feels weirdly appropriate for the time it was published, given a couple of other, more seasonal poems that use anapaestic tetrametre.

Enjoyable so far - nice to see that there's someone capable of somewhat compensating for Chrysalis's lack of sense. Though, I have to say, I hope that this doesn't spell the end for her situation. I realize that, canonically speaking, it's a foregone conclusion that she'll have to leave at some point, but I kinda think, in this case... screw canon, being a wrestling villain was the best ending Queen Chrysatwit's gonna get, let her have this.

"Yes. My organs are very well formed and positioned."

I just hate it when my hearts are twice the size they should be.

I... I do the thing where the words sound kind of the same.

Seriously though, asking a shapeshifter that question is kind of silly. Her organs are wherever she wants them to be.

Hey, it's more than a lot of people do. Many just shove rhyming words randomly into a line and assume that's all there is to it. Frankly, having someone who cares about metre at all is usually pretty refreshing, never mind one who's actually pretty good at it.

Love it, can barely wait to see how badly she'll get to screw it up :rainbowlaugh:

I love how he's like "I actually have no problem with any of this but I won't falsify documents"
I feel like he just wants the info, to get the deets on changelings, but its hilarious that he's like "Well! IS she healthy?"

this series really is proof that whatever takes off on this site is totally arbitrary. this is one of the better new fics I've seen pop up in the last couple of weeks. Thanks for the smile

I am personally super jazzed that it's taken off like this, especially since I feel like Stardom kind of flew under the radar the first time around and now it's getting tons of views. I'm really proud of it as a story and I'm glad more people are getting the chance to see it.

The continuation is starting strong! The comedy and dialogue are as solid as ever. The Zebra OC is a fun addition, too. Looking forward to Spinnerette’s reaction to their new dilemma!

In a roundabout sort of way, this actually kind of reminds me of an episode of Invader Zim...but at least Chrysalis and Mandible's solution to the problem is actually reasonable. :rainbowlaugh:

11094005
A consummate professional of the natural sciences. The good doctor is truly a stallion after my own heart.

Hmm, Spinnerette is smaller than Chrysalis “only eighty,” and very well fed at the moment. She’s probably still growing and overdue for a molt. The most likely issue to result is a scheduling conflict with a concert while her new exoskeleton is too soft for anything strenuous.

I see Goodmane is ironically named. :trixieshiftright:

And it sounds like this might be going in directions I hadn't expected...but so much the better. :ajsmug:

My guess is an egg.

She's either pregnant, or it's cancer. She's pregnant isn't she?

looks like our "Young Queen" is in the phase of building a new hive?

"It must be a queen, " Zakeem insisted. "One more of her caste. The physiological differences are vast."

This would scan better as "the physiological difference is vast."

Good thing Spinnerette had to go see a doctor, otherwise it might have been a while before she realised what was going on.

Is she pregnant, or something else?

Zakeem found his original misgivings fading away, and he realized he was enjoying the time he spent speaking with this charming young mare, even if she was actually three decades his senior.

Now KISS!:heart::pinkiehappy::raritystarry:

I think we can all safely say she's gone and invoked Murphy when she was professing how she doesn't have a hive and doesn't need a hive. Heh, I wonder if Chrysalis will just cackle, stop, point at her and laugh some more for a while? :rainbowlaugh:

Still, one or two doesn't seem so bad. It's when you start having a hundred or more to corral like wandering kobolds eager (for the most part) to do your bidding... even if you didn't tell them to do anything and they start making stuff up. Ack! :twilightoops:

11176075
Reminds me of that scp where Cthulhu is just an edgy teenager and people keep making cults around him that he hates. But this time it’s cuter because she’s a full grown love bug and not a teenager

Wait... So if Spinnerette is gestating an egg, what happened to it when she was a cat? Was it just reconfigured along with the rest of her biomass? Can she do that with anything that's inside her body when she changes, or is it limited to material that originates from her own body? I have SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!

11175808
Thanks. I went back and tidied up a lot of Zakeem's speech in the first chapter; it really was a mess, huh? Writing for a zebra is a pain, but I really like it when it comes out right.

especially since I feel like Stardom kind of flew under the radar the first time around and now it's getting tons of views.

And well deserved. It was rather underappreciated.

Just an FYI the comics did eventually visit Zecora’s homeland. It explained her constant rhyming is a concentration exercise she developed to keep herself mentally sharp and flexible in the face of the assorted wild magics she deals with in order to make her potions. Also said potions aren’t specifically a zebra thing rather she developed the methods herself from assorted scraps of lore she collected during her travels. The other zebra don’t rhyme and are arguably more technologically advanced and urban than Equestria.

That’s no reason to change what you’ve already written. People using “show only,” is long accepted here. I still thought you might find it interesting to know.

Supplemental Author's Note: The egg is just an egg, not an allegory. It is not intended to be a metaphor for anything. JUST AN EGG.
(Realized the possible connotations a little too late in the writing process...)

Not a drone egg, a special egg, which means possibly a Queen egg?

An egg that's about to be stolen :(

Why do I get the feeling that this Blackmail is going to go remarkably poorly for everyone involved except Chrysalis.

She's likely going to exercise her license to Menace with extreme prejudice, and is going to enjoy every moment of it.

Chryssy should've thought a wee bit more about just going flying out of the window without saying anything. This will devolve in a lot of shenanigans, and soon. Because of course his secretary needs to find out :rainbowlaugh:

11189749
I cant imagine Chrysalis will be anything less than a furious grandmother.

And in the darkness of Zakeem's office, where Spinnerette's egg gently twitched in its nest, a soft amber glow enveloped the cheap doorknob and carefully manipulated the lock.

Wuh-oh! Plot complication! :twilightoops:

11189749

Someone trying to blackmail Chrysalis is never going to go down well.

It'd be like trying to blackmail one of the Princesses:

Celestia looked down at the pony and his sheaf of photographs of her in compromising positions.
"Wingnut, I am so very disappointed in you and what you have done here"

Daybreaker Celestia looked down upon the carbon husk that was all that remained of her would-be blackmailer and frowned, and motioned for the maid to clean up the mess. She was going to have words with her guards, and they would not be happy ones

Luna looked down at the pony and his sheaf of photographs of her in compromising positions and grinned. "Wingnut, I am *so* looking forward when you go to sleep tonight".

Cadance held the photo of her in a compromising position up into the light and turned it around one way and then another to get a better view, and then grinned. "Oh Wingnut, this is really good! Can I get more copies? Do you have anything from later on when the honey came out?"
Behind her Shining glared and stamped his hoof into the marble, cracking it a bit. Once Cadance had what she wanted, he was going to do some face rearranging, followed by some moonlight digging in the palace gardens.

Twilight held the photo of her in a compromising position and then gave Wingnut an impromptu hour long lecture on why what she had done was perfectly normal for a adult mare to do. Behind her there was a mixture of disapproving frowns and claw sharpening. Wingnut was never seen again, and the Friendship Castle had an especially good harvest of poppy flowers that year.

If that egg isn't there when they get back, somepony's head is gonna roll. Fear the pissy Chryssy.

A soft amber glow enveloped the cheap doorknob and carefully manipulated the lock.

... It's Hale, isn't it. Hale's aura is amber too.

I don't like this guy, and we're obviously not supposed to, but I really don't like this guy. I'm going to greatly enjoy what happens to him when Chryssy finds out what he took.

Couldn't have happened to a better Goodmane.

Hmm, I take it being in danger made it turn into a tank-xenomorph thing -- I wonder if it can even change back safely after having eaten a pony..
Well this is thrilling, hope the Zeeb doesn't get eaten :twilightoops:

"Doctor Goodmane!"

Again, the irony of this guy's name is simply astounding. I'll bet his mane doesn't even look all that good, if just to make the irony as literal as possible. :rainbowlaugh:

Maybe I'll just have to call him "Badmane" henceforth instead.

"The examination. The extra time you spent with her. The Countess is Queen Chrysalis."

Dang it, couldn't you have at least gotten it in two or three instead of one? :ajbemused:

Then he frowned. "Unless it's viable."

Is he blind? OF COURSE it's viable, the egg was JUST described as shifting around due to its occupant inside! :facehoof:

"But I need you to believe me: I only want what's best for everyone here."

By which he of course means what's best for himself. You're proving to be a very transparent pony, Badmane.

As he did so, he heard the window open, then the sound of a pony clambering through it, with a shout of "You'll thank me later!"

Ha! You wish.

On the upside though, we can just sic Chrysalis on him. I actually would have no problem with her having her way with him at this point. Probably would be doing the world a favor, even.

“Proper nutrition is the foundation of the hive,” she said, immune to reproach.

He snorted. “This from the queen who was literally starving us.”

“I never said it was about your nutrition.”

Oh, details, details...

And it was much bigger than a pony. He could state this empirically based on the fact that he could see a pony leg that matched Goodmane’s chartreuse still protruding from the creature’s mouth, possibly still attached to the rest of the pony. There was a slurping noise, and the leg was gone.

pbs.twimg.com/media/EuOAlQHWQAIIHt8?format=png&name=900x900

somehow unexpectedly the comedic tone of the story turned into a gloomy horror.

Changelings feed on emotions not flesh and it looks like Goodmane was swallowed whole. It’s possible he’s still alive and being emotionally drained instead of digested. He could potentially be saved if they get him out before he’s an emotionless husk.

For those asking “why would they want to save him?” Goodmane is a corrupt, criminal jerk. But he hasn’t done anything that warrants a death sentence. He thought the egg couldn’t possibly be viable and as soon as it started to hatch he stopped running and agreed to help Zakeem. He’s not a good pony but he isn’t outright vile either.
